What I did today

I found out oryx made a company: http://oryxdesignlab.com/
I found out opengl spec is out: http://www.opengl.org/registry/
I looked at some siggraph stuff: https://labs.sketchfab.com/siggraph2014/
I read a bean-tracing overview: http://www.fxguide.com/featured/beam-rendering-extended-at-siggraph-2014/
I read a preview blog about an upcomming paper: http://casual-effects.blogspot.fr/2014/08/screen-space-ray-tracing.html
ate lunch
fished crabs
now I back to work…

I read about the OpenGL Initiative. This will be very awesome if Khronos is able to pull this off as it will get rid of all the bloat that has accumulated in the API over the years and give us a modern way to access the CPU and GPU.

It will give DX12 and Mantle a run for their money if Khronos can finish this.

Not so worried about how much or how little it trounces DX12 and/or Mantle as I am that it’s client-deployable, modern, and properly cross-platform and bug-free.

Some more fun with particles:

Just tryin’ to keep busy :stuck_out_tongue:

Implemented scrollpanes last night. Turns out they need their own sprite engine, so it was quite a complex affair. Very satisfying to see a listbox working inside one though.

Been a week I had surgery and now I’m back program. ;D

The sky (Is it?) seems a lot like water to me

I guess that’s just a placeholder.
To be honest I preferred the isometric look, but it looks okay-ish in this side scroller format too.

I’m done.

Image is broken, don’t use dropbox.

Moved over to Gfycat

Rage quit programming, that’s what I did.

I actually got around to make a small video showing my 3D FP-Prototype. (Note: The ‘FP’ is just ‘FPS’ without the ‘S’)

What a great day!

Looks great, good job!

Lookin good, one crit I might consider reducing the head sway a tad. Watching the video made my eyes feel a little weird, but I’m sure when at the controls it feels different so idk. Just some friendly advise

Drew the art for the next update to City Jumper, and I’m really proud of it. Right now it’s just a mock-up but today I’m going to implement it in code.

Also made a new pixel person:

All values (/calibration values) in the ‘engine’ are not final, so you can change them at runtime without any problems.
The headbobbing effect is just 5 variables, three for calculations, two for calibration.

I will need to open up a thread with a demo of the ‘engine’ at some point… probably at the end of the holydays.

Have a nice day!

I finally bought a new laptop - a Lenovo g505s. I’ve been stuck on the same laptop since 2008, so this is a big deal for me. Here is my new laptop compared to the old one:

I now have a 64-bit OS, and 8GB RAM! My graphics card can handle my own games!!!
