State of Fortune

Was it possible to build underneath you while jumping? If not a relog will fix it. I’ll add a /stuck command to the todo list which will bring you to where you were a minute ago or something.

I got hold of someone that made some nice textures, I’ll look into adding a few of them soon

Mike

Mickelukas I just got to say your awesome. The progress for this game is insane and how you have made all of this in a matter of months, I just hope I’ll be as good as you one day, but until then keep up the good work!

Thanks!

After a lot of swearing and mistakes you can now build slopes of different angles (just place several slope blocks on top of each other to control the angle). There are still a couple of issues but wanted to bring it out in the current form as it is usable.

The slopes try to be smart about in which direction they should stand but they still fail sometimes, I’ll fix it in the coming days. They never create corners either, looking into that as well.

They also share the bounding box with the other blocks so you cannot walk up steep slopes and the movement is choppy like a stairs, fixing that too in the coming days.

Example of a house built using some slopes:

In other news I got hold of some pretty nice textures that I am allowed to use so will add more materials soon too.

Mike

Now thats awesome!

How about making an “Material Atlas”, in wich you can selest your Material?
Not just a List of Buttons, maybe a table of Materials with their names and texture?

  • Longor1996

Yup, I’m changing the build window as one of the next steps and will add another 20-30 materials (with a picture instead of the name) and let you choose things like the shape in a single click.

Mike

First of:
The slopes are buggy as hell.
It’s nearly impossible to build something with them.
They always set their direction to some random direction.
Can’t actually build anything with them this way.

Oh, and I have some ideas for materials!

List:

  • White Marble
  • Black Marble
  • Grass
  • Glass
  • Textile
  • Wallpaper
  • Iron/Steel Beams
  • More Wood Types

Also, i think the birch/oak trees (or whatever they are) look kind of boring.
Could you maybe add multiple tree types?

  • Longor1996

PS: Im actually Online in the Game and building stuff at the spawn.

They are indeed buggy but you are able to build things with them  They try to figure out which way to point and usually they turn out correct when you start building something. There are three cases that I know of that causes some problem still though.

There are currently four tree shapes and two tree colors and two leaf colors. I’ll look into adding more somewhere down the line.

Mike

I added 22 more materials. Some of them are quite temporary and there needs to be more different kinds (and less colored blocks) that looks less repetitive from afar. At least this provides you with some more flexibility

I also redid the build screen to display the block textures and to be more user friendly (no more clicking a button a lot of times until it states the correct option  ).

Mike

wooooot cant want to try!

Help!
The Website is down!

A switch blew up or something, been trying to fix it for a couple of hours now. I’ll post a message when the game is up again

Mike

EDIT: It should be up again, sorry about that. Had to change a couple of switches around to get it somewhat reliable again.

So you host this yourself? Or the hosting companies switches went bad?

I host it myself. I got tired of paying 30 euros a month for a bad VPS so I bought my own. Still need to set up the dynamic dns to point it all to the server but will do that soonish.

Mike

Oh awesome! What kind of server do you have this running on?

The game is perfect There are a few things I would add like the fov… for me its too small… it looks like we are almost inside the objects… an option to change it it would be great…

There is a bug on the stairs lot all of them I think its only on the stone ones… not sure… the stairs at i’ve tested are the castle ones

Added the character model the missus has been working on, it even has a walk animation (still need to be improved, but it looks okayish already). Jumping/swimming looks funny as it still uses the walk animation

CPU: Intel Core i5 3470
Ram: 8GB 1600Mhz
Hard drive: OCZ Vertex4 60GB
Lots of fans to keep it cool.

Was 500 euros in total, which is about what I paid per year at the hosting company, and there I only had 2gb ram and a slow hdd access and processor on a shared server.

Thanks! Sure, looking into FoV tomorrow

There are a few bugs still but I can’t seem to reproduce any bug with the stairs. Can you explain what you did and what happened?

Mike

EDIT: Added the FoV setting right away instead of tomorrow. There is only a low and high option for now, I’ll look into making it into a slider somewhere down the road.

Its easier to show u… I’ll be on the game till about 2 or 3 am and tomorrowI can stay a few hours… try to find me

There, lots of bug fixes (most of them small, like smoother walking on stairs and keep jumping if holding in space), and a new screenshot!

Thanks Joaogl for testing and dwon for building the monster/boat

Mike

Very awesome!

One thought. Could I please have an option to invert the mouse y-axis?

Sure, I’m currently redoing the sky to get some nice gradients in the blue and sunrise/sunsets. I’ll implement the inverse z at the same time.
