State of Fortune

Griefer attack again… the same stupid… Pauler…

Ban him! if u dont have that in the game yet just use the server firewall to block any connections from his IP and add somehting very easy… if the playername is pauler dont download the game or dont let him connect to the game…

The game is ,as mentioned numerous times above, under development and the developer himself said to not get attached to your constructions, so why you act like that?

Are u stupid right? If u are making a project and want to show to the community is to get the feed back… His running a full time server and his paying for it his working hard on this and u are screwing it! stop and think… would u like to have a person like u on your work?!

His work is the game itself not the buildings.

Let’s not make this a flame war please. @Pauler Beta, underdevelopment, or finished game, I don’t think you’re making any friends by destroying things. It’s not like there’s no more space to build.

It is indeed just a test still and sooner or later I will probably have to reset the world anyway, but to log in only to destroy things someone else built is extremely childish. If you want to prove a point that you can destroy things, you already made it the first time. The game will be protected from griefers in two ways:

  1. The game server will not allow you to build/remove things on land you don’t own without specific approval from the owner of the land.
  2. On private servers you will be able to set up the privileges as you want them.

The playground, which is the only game mode at the moment, will be a test server for people to make sure they can play the game before they pay anything, and will be open for griefing, but in no way encouraged.

Kind regards,
Mike

EDIT: Tomorrow I’ll upload the new sky, starting to look cozy but the better I make the sky color the worse the clouds look  Anyone know a fast way to make good looking clouds that support moving?

http://stateofprofit.com/pictures/terrainTest/sunset.png

Okay, that looks really great.

For the Clouds:
How about randomly generated particle groups?
You can move them around, and when they get out-of-view, delete them.
Just an Idea. I wish a good night from germany!

Thanks! Won’t that take a whole lot of particles (and ergo, be quite slow) to create something good looking?

I just uploaded the sunrise/sunset/gradient sky and some random fixes.

Here’s a sunrise and a sunset to get an idea.

And Mr-Griefer attacked again.
And this time, everything around the spawn is completely demolished.

@Mickelukas, you know that griefed buildings everywhere put the game under a bad light, right?
Even if you tell a person that the playground server is not the actual game,
nobody is gonna play a game where everything is demolished at the first sight.

Some well known game developer said that.

  • Longor1996

Hi Longor,

I know, but can’t/won’t do much about it at the moment as I prefer to start on the actual game part in 2-3 weeks, so there is something to play that cannot be griefed, instead of spending the little time I have to solve a problem that won’t exist in the actual game. If you don’t want to log in on the test server until the game is up and running I completely understand it.

I will keep you all up to date when the next advancements are made

Kind regards,
Mike

I just had to drop in here and say that after reading all the replies and seeing all the screenshots I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the timestamps. You sir, are very productive! Keep up the good work, I would love to play a game like this, it looks so beautiful and with such freedom to move/build.

Thanks Brollysan  I only have 2-3 hours a day to program (full time work and family) so I try to be productive with the time I have.

Almost finished adding render distance, inverted mouse look and a couple of other things to make it more accessible for more people.

Mike

Finally finished with rewriting a big part of the engine for making it easier to expand as well lowering the cpu utilization with about 80%. Once the land is loaded into the game it is now, on most systems, gpu limited instead of cpu limited (and the cpu fan will make less sound when playing  ).

Also added brightness, render distance and inverted mouse look options. It also saves your settings for the next time you log in as well as some other smaller fixes.

Two or three or so weeks to go now before the foundation is good enough that I can start with the game part, I can’t wait!

Mike

I just had a game and I am blown away, that is fantastic.
The game is responsive and looks great. Nice building tool as well with the multiple block placment.
Then I found you could sculpt the ground too! Even better.

Really cool work.

Thanks for the kind words!

I’m currently adding so each type of block has their own bounding box (so you walk up slopes as if it was a slope and not a stair for example).

After that I’m adding (in no specific order):
Stairs
Fixed direction slopes
Fixed direction stairs
Windows
Doors (that can open! :))
Ability to remove trees
Log in where you logged out
Reset position to the spawn point (only for the playground)
Teleport to other players (only for the playground)
Forests
More flat lands and diverse landscape

Once I’m done with that list (2 weeks?) the playground server will be reset (to handle the new landscape generation algorithm) and be deemed complete and I will start with the game part.

Mike

I just completed and uploaded the following:
Different block types have their own bounding box, walking up slopes is smoother and you can walk up more than one at a time
Stairs (choose height of the stairs by placing several on top of each other)
Fixed direction stairs/slopes, if the automatic direction isn’t doing what you want it to, you can now choose the direction yourself, the slope/stairs will face away from you when you build it

One thing I just added to the to-do list before starting with the game mode is mouse sensitivity, the missus is complaining a lot about how fast it is

If I get some time in the weekend I’ll have windows, doors and tree removal in the game beginning next week.

Mike

I had time but doors were a whole lot more complicated than I thought they would be  Everything from adding actions to blocks to dynamic blocks (not having to recreate the display list constantly) to having the correct obstruction and so on made doors quite complex. It’ll be a lot easier to add the next dynamic thing now though as I made a lot generic right away.

Screenie (textures by the missus, the second door texture will be switched out somewhere down the line):

Mike

That looks cool!
Is it already uploaded or part of the next big update?

  • Longor1996

Already uploaded

Mike

Came on to see what was up today, glad to see my house still standing upright and that people are still putting new-ish things on it
