Whays the story behind your name

You guys may be the League of Dukes, but you’re all legends in my book.

So, what’s the incredulous tale about your nick?

Behold, it is I, the ghost of forums past:
https://web.archive.org/web/20121130130851/http://fallingsandgame.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=15294

I am actually surprised to see that it seems to be gone, I thought it was still there not too long a go, even if it’s been dead for years.
Unfortunately the stylesheets etc. didn’t make it to the archive, but you can still get the gist of it if you really want to read the cringy stuff I said.

I was a lurker here during that time as well, don’t really know why I didn’t register sooner.
But as to my name, I’m sorry to disappoint, there is no real story. I go by a few names, it’s the one I chose then and I decided to keep it for this forum as well.

My name is the result of a specific symbol, which is drawn by drawing a line over the single characters on the keyboard.
Don’t know what the symbol means though. I saw it in a dream and it just happened to hit the characters on my keyboard in the right order to make up a name. (Except that I had to replace the ‘u’ with an ‘r’…)

I use “Actual” from military jargon (see here).

I am making a space fleet sim game where the player is the CO of the fleet, so it seemed appropriate.

Damocles -> Mercenary 2 by Paul Woakes

An impressively large game back in its time.
(you could travel a complete solar system including all its planets and moons, visit thousands of building etc)
One of the first (3D) open world games.

(Other notable games where Midwinter and Carrier Command for example)

My real name is Wesley, but for some reason my friends started calling me ‘wessles’. I suppose it is some kind of corrupted plural of Wesley? That or Wes is too mainstream 8).

That nickname died; now they call me Wes again; kept the username though (mostly because I can’t come up with anything better).

-wes

Mine’s got to do with books and algorithms. There’s a series of fantasy books where the crime boss of one of the major cities as called things like “The Upright Man” and the like (Raymond E. Feist’s Riftwar Saga and the others in that LONG series.) And then I enjoy writing pathfinding algorithms and the like. So I crammed ‘em together to become UprightPath (Linkin’ my love for fantasy and for pathing.)

Mine goes without saying.

Mine is pretty unimaginative. My first name is Bernie. Shorten that to Bern, swap the first and last letters, and you have nerb. So, ummm… exciting yeah?

My username is just my real name.

I used to love lego, especially bionicles (until it shut down :frowning: )
And in bionicles, “Matanui” was basically the god and there was even a island named after it.
And 159 is simply three numbers which represent the start, middle and end numbers of 1-9.

Kev(in)s of the world unite!

And by “world” I mean “this forum” and by “unite” I mean “stay at home and program and drink too much coke”. (I’m a diet coke man myself.)

My real name is Kevin, but when i was about 7 years old I needed a name, and it was for a war game… xD

Since then been using it, because I can’t get a better name

I would pay millions to get that kind of name… Ur lucky…

Mac70 - from real name Mac(iej), I don’t know why 70, especially as this is very, very old nick. ::slight_smile:

I wanted “Gibbo” as my username for Tiger Woods 2004, it was taken and I clicked the first suggestion. Stuck with it ever since.

I kinda took my first name and last names smashed them together took out bits, and added a letter.

[I’ve used another alias for a good 5 years, but I made that when I was alot younger and really don’t like it anymore]

Coke Zero here brother!

Kev

The idea is something about heroes ending up in graves, as in you will hopefully die a lot in my games.
But for the most part it was two words mashed together.

(Not sure why I added ‘Dev’ (Development) on the end. I doubt HeroesGrave was taken)
