So, I’ve seen you guys have some pretty peculiar names, and I was wondering why you chose it. Also, does anyone know if Riven’s name is based off of the league of legends champion? This question’s been bugging me for a while.
Considering Riven’s had his name here 4 years before league was announced, I doubt it.
I needed a name for Xbox Live back in the day, and picked tinfoilboy
I can not even remember when I chose this name or why, but now I can’t seem to come up with anything better
I believe the League of Legends champion was named after our Overlord. :persecutioncomplex:
And so the legend was “confirmed”…
Back in the old days of main frames and CRTs, we were only allowed 8 chars for our names, and a common approach was to take the first four letters of the first and last name and paste them together. So, the name isn’t just an uninspired act of non-creativity and boredom, it is referencing a bygone age.
I also use Adonax here and there. This is a shortening of “Arundo Donax” or, a. donax, the cane used to make reeds for clarinets, saxes, bassoons, and my main instrument, the oboe. Oboists get stuck spending a lot of time with a. donax, scraping reeds to play. It cuts into time I’d rather spend playing the instrument or programming, or in fact, into time where I’d rather being doing almost anything else.
Catharsis was my original DJ name back in the day… I found it kind of odd back in the day when I was active for folks to yell out, “Hey Catharsis,” from across the street in public… I kind of came out of the generation where the focus was on the music more than performer per se…
Posted a link of a bunch of historical DJ sets last month:
My father used to play an online role playing game when I was about 7 years old where he named his character ‘Slypela’. When I was about 10 I got interested in the game Runescape and named my character ‘Slythela’ because I forgot what my dad named his, and thought it was that. Later I just shortened it to Slyth for any online accounts I used. I’m not sure why I named my profile with the 2727 after it; I really wish I hadn’t or could remove it somehow. Ah me from 2 years ago, what a fool.
My cousin made an account for me in a game when I was little. I realize now that he might have just been joking with me, but I’ve kept the name ever since (mostly because I’m too lazy/I don’t want 2 different aliases).
By definition, it means inhabited land. Also I wanted the nickname ‘ecu’, it sounded cool.
Also, the title says ‘Whays’ in place of ‘What’
I named my profile with the first letters of my name. Sri Harsha Chilakapati.
Sri is one of the names of lord Ganesh, Hindu god of prosperity. Harsha means man who is happy. Chilakapati came from the name of our village Chilakapadu and is our surname.
I needed a name for my druid on world of warcraft, so I opened notepad, and then hit my keyboard a few times. I took out some random letters, and ended up with Yemti, but decided to change it to Yemto since that sounded better.
I just came up with my name in the middle of science class. I have no idea why or how.
My real name is Kev(in)Glass.
Kev
In school someone one day had the idea to give everyone a unique nickname. Mine was “matheus”, because I was good at maths (“mathe” in german).
It was about that time that I first needed internet nicknames (~11 years of age), so that became my pseudonym
I’ve been called Mike since I was born (well, the Swedish version anyway). I used to use a couple of internet names, but I don’t mind everyone calling me by my real nickname
Mike
10-year old me could not correctly type “jimmy”, so I just used “jimmt” :persecutioncomplex:
I wanted an online avatar that was remember-able in 2001.
HAM the first three letters of my last name
NOP the first three letters after M
HAM_N_O_P > Hamenopi
I once was registered on JGO under a different name. A couple of years later I realized it was a bad one, so I associated myself with the best game ever.
