What IDE colour theme do you use?

So there seems to be a split between developers who use darker themes compared to those who use lighter themes. I’m interested to see what others here on JGO use. If you like, post your actual theme up ;D someone else might enjoy it

I personally use the standard colours that come with Eclipse, I like them :point:

Same if something’s not broke why fix it.

I try to use dark themes all the time, lighter ones really don’t mix well with my eyes in a dimly lit room. Usually all of the IDEs I use come with a dark theme, so whichever it is I use it!

It’s not broken, some people just prefer darker colors (or just alternate color schemes). I personally don’t like lighter themes, but it doesn’t mean I consider them “broken”.

I always have used a Dark theme for whatever IDE I’m using, Eclipse included, it really is easier on the eyes when you’re binge coding for hours.

I also program for a living, and I use the Dark Theme Visual Studio at work, since I’m coding for 8 hours a day it helps a ton on my eyes.

White/Light themes look uglier too I think.

Yeah, sorry, that was a bit blunt (what I said)

Interesting. I do suffer with my eyes a lot (Wanders off to look at dark themes)

Also look at (heh) f.lux if you haven’t.
Set it to the 1 hour transition period and you don’t even notice after a while.
Turn it off while doing graphics work though.

I used to use f.lux on my old Windows laptop (I don’t use it on my Mac now, the colors just look better), it was great.

What I don’t like about the eclipse themes is that they don’t darken the controls (i.e. the buttons, controls, borders etc.) I figure there must be a way to do this, but I haven’t figured it out yet. Any ideas?

On a side note: I prefer a dark theme too. I really enjoy the dark theme of Visual Studio and I wish I had that same look in Eclipse.

I really love it light and bright. Dark themes give me eye-cancer.
But it’s true what they say at f.lux, I guess. When your surroundings are dark, then it’s not good to look at a bright screen.
But personally, I get tired looking at a dark screen in a dark surrounding.
That’s why even in the evening and night times my room is at 3x 10.000 lux with three large beurer daylight lamps. Especially in the winter seasons those are great.

 ooo, this looks cool. Thanks for the link!

Yes! This is exactly what I don’t like. I love using Atom when i’m doing web stuff as the whole IDE is the same

You can find dark themes on the internet for eclipse that you put in your dropin folder that will change the look of the entire IDE, problem is finding a good one. The ones (3) I’ve downloaded change buttons and don’t render certain controls properly until you hover over them, so I just use flux.

I’m actually watching a video about the dropins folder at the moment xD

Just so the NetBeans users don’t feel left out  - http://plugins.netbeans.org/plugin/46257/praxis-live-look-and-feel

Funnily enough, I don’t use it - I prefer the default (light) Nimbus theme in NetBeans itself.

I do prefer light themes too, but I have no problem using the dark version even. For example, I use the light version in IntelliJ IDEA.

And I use the dark theme in Atom editor (which I use for my Jekyll blog)

And in Visual Studio (Yes I do use it, in college) I prefer light theme again. Just note, it’s all a preference of the user, and nothing is broken.

I’ve tried darker themes such as Moonrise with Eclipse, but I always revert back to the default lighter theme
since it feels less distracting. Maybe it’s because I’m used to the default.

For now i using dark eclipse.
But before i used default white - couple years)

my IMHO: with white you can see all code at once,
with black i can focus on some part but it hard to watch all at once as with white,
but black is less tired eyes, so i use black

Few years ago I read an article about color tones that don’t harm the vision, if I find I’ll post here, It is very useful.

So I did some Googling and found out about this really cool darkUI theme called Moonrise. For anyone interested here is the link  You will have to download 2 files though, 1 for the UI changes and then an EPF file for the syntax, though you could use any theme I think :point: https://github.com/guari/eclipse-ui-theme

That theme comes with Eclipse I believe, at least with my installation at work!
