What I did today

I fixed 2 bugs in Vangard today. Woodcutters would spawn multiple woodpiles from a single tree, thankfully fixed after a couple of months. And I made searching for items by type in inventories more efficient.

日本語を勉強するのは楽しい!

It’s weird how many similarities there are between Japanese and Chinese writing :o

Yes, Japanese has kanji which are basically Chinese characters. They’re used to shorten/differentiate words. Japanese itself has an alphabet (two actually, hiragana and katakana) and each kanji has a different pronunciation.

Aye, reported to my rep a couple of hours ago. Total disaster. I had full access to a number of completely random accounts before the penny dropped.

How many people do you think got their information stolen? From what I’ve heard, people had access to credit cards and stuff

No idea, I was too busy getting drunk to care

Replaced my monitor with my 32" Samsung 3D TV.

I silenced the fans of my PowerEdge 2950, the server was designed to compensate on the heat coming from SCSI drives, so the fans run at 12000 RPM. I don’t have and can’t afford those kinds of drives so I googled some ways to fix it. The fans change at 27*75RPM intervals. There’s a python script that allows you to change the payload of a firmware patch to change the coefficient. So I bumped that 27 down to an 8 and it’s pretty silent now, and the temps are completely fine even when in a closed room closet environment!

Now I’ve gotta get proxmox to sense the correct fan values and I’m golden to start working on the software.

Aaargh!

Been working on various fine points on the “Shepard Chord” audio demo. I now have it able to pitch the effect at different octaves (am going to probably have a “high” and a “low” in the gui). I also put in an option to select either a 3-octave or 4-octave effect.

But somewhere in there, because I neglected a basic and important design principle, the pitch gets progressively wonky over time. There are many oscillators that are having their frequency altered, and because they should all maintain fixed harmonic relationships, I should have just one stem source for the pitch changes, and generate the set via fixed multipliers.

Have to go back to figuring out the right ‘architecture’ and rebuild, once again. Third pass is the charm?

I’ve been trying to learn Blender. It’s going well

I’m shellshocked! Springer has made a bunch of books older than 10 years available for free downloads:

Sprayed an inordinate amount of dry shampoo in my hair last week and now it’s really hard to get out… my hair feels a little rubbery :frowning:

I also ordered my motorcycle helmet! How was everyone else’s holiday?

Nice I’m getting my bike soon. I started breaking in my boots!

Talking of bikes, I idled away a happy 20 minutes designing my new bike:

The antidote to 15 years of huge BMWs!

Princec, I never took you for the sports bike/supermoto kind of guy! The Duke is an awesome bike, I’ll be starting much smaller on a 2013 Ninja 300.

@KudoDEV, what bike are you looking to get? I’m actually just going to use work boots as my riding boots, but I’m starting to look into getting some nice gloves, a jacket and definitely at least kevlar pants if I don’t spring for some armored ones. I’m a little scared of going down and losing all the skin on my legs :stuck_out_tongue:

For the last 15 years I’ve alternated between ZZR1100s and BMW GSes. With a couple of F800STs in between. My sports days are over now though, as my teeth are grey, my back is knackered, and my eyes are old and bent, so I’m getting the Duke R… because it’s completely batshit! (Confirmed by test ride :))

Cas

Did you track any of those bikes? So much power just for the street! But congrats on the Duke, that is one nice bike. Supermoto isn’t entirely my style right now, but I definitely wouldn’t mind one sitting in the garage to take out every now and then
