What I did today

Oh girlfriends. Mine just had her birthday yesterday except I didn’t get to see her for reasons. Needless to say last night was not a good night for me. Sigh

Finally decided to separate the big chunk of code that’s always in my games for screens, registries, transitions, utilities, and the like into its own mini-engine/library. I can just access it using git submodules in my actual games. Hopefully this’ll make it much easier to make a bunch of little games instead of tediously copying alllll the old files and refactoring it to death.

Today, and the past 3 weeks I’ve been working on a Social Web App and today i’ve finally got it into a state that is ready for the public! If you guys want to check out what its all about visit its own post here: http://www.java-gaming.org/index.php/topic,36582.msg347634.html#msg347634

Not adword - but i want share it:

i feels old :wink:

p.s I want share it: because after i watched it - I remembered something very important that I forgot with time.
Things are not so complicated as we think about them now
Think simpler.

Simple example when I making first games – it was so simple code
All gui in code like inventory.setPos(150,30) – and it was fun to write this, test it and play.
Now I have so many advance libs: export/import external format, Gui manager etc…
I can do more work in 2-5 times with them then previous,
But for some reasons it no so fun as before, even painfull some times (many understand me)
The irony I have more advance system to do more work in less time but I spend less time to work,
Because this complication that makes all process heavier (in head).

And remembered that before it was so simple and now it still the same)
return me fun and inspiration to make more =)
Its not about throw away all libs – its about don’t think hard)
(and not only programming ^^)

Up: also - more offtop)
Also – internet full of free educational courses

personally i watch fully http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-002-circuits-and-electronics-spring-2007/
and hope find some time for others.
we have many internet tutorials how to - but you may know basics, or its be very hard to understand and copy-past solution – so university lectures and official tutorials give such basics
(java I learned from Oracle tutorials and http://math.hws.edu/javanotes/contents-with-subsections.html thanks to Hobart and William Smith College)

Why Mit videos and not Edx
For me not important certificate (I do it because am interesting)
but important to watch video ride on time - when I have such time, not waiting week or two for new part :slight_smile:
(or I not see such option on EDX)

It be good to go university and learn all there – But it not end of you’re world if you can’t go there for some reason,
If you want learn something: you have internet – use it, search and you find what you looking for)

IMHO: I like EDX idea – but it looks so old technically for me and hard to fast use:
I want full list of video on some theme available in any time,
(why videos lectures – it be betters Text like programming tutorials + gif like in Wiki or even interactive javascript ^^)
with tasks to solve and hints for solving most common mistakes + end solution of task.
And ability to download all this to solve it offline)

IMHO ^ 2: And yes I don’t have graduate :wink:
When I try go to university – they say I stupid to go free education
even not pass me to second mandatory exam,
But call me after 2 weeks that I can go to Uni on contract (payed) XD
(even without second mandatory exam which is mandatory for contract too ^^)
In any case I don’t have money for it ;), same passion to trying in another Uni in my country
Simple see how education is useless for ppl in my country and don’t what spend 3-5 years for nothing (see many bad example in own life: one of which I have “A-” for chemistry in school but for 5 years teaching it I never hold in hands test-tube ^^, we simple don’t have any practical experiments XD)
But now there are free online tutorials and I can not even express how much I am grateful for them.

Many successful ppl don’t have Full graduate – so don’t give so small circumstance like lack of education stop you.
p.s This all my personal opinion – and it may be not so good for you,
but in any case you have ability to learn something for free if you have internet connection)

Not really what I did today, but over the last three days.

I’m thinking I might actually finish this project, so I might make a topic for it at some point.

went from binary svo’s to 8bit floats and painted the mip-level voxel coverage :

Our second Dev Log has been published by my good friend Ahnaf.

New logs will now be published every Saturday morning!

I hope you all stop by to check them out~

Dev Log #2: http://kudodev.com/forum/index.php?/blogs/entry/4-gerudoking-has-entered-the-chatroom/

I lol’d +1

Not entirely proud of this but… I ate an entire pack of bacon within 12 hours. In my defense I was pretty into coding my website so I was just hungry and wanted meat to get my finger strength back. But… all that unhealthy greasy food…

On the plus side I got a lot of work done on my website!

Eating a pound of bacon (1 pack) is about eight strips. 32% of your daily fat in two meaning you just ate 128% your daily intake of fats in the form of good old lard.
(But I must say I have done the same myself. The obesity statistics for diet are very much hindered by myself alone)

I think the pack I had had a few more strips in it, but regardless yeah it was way higher than my daily intake should have been :confused: In my defense I have never been able to gain weight so I would be more worried about what kind of havoc it had on my arteries!

I will definitely not be eating bacon for a while now, though :wink:

  public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    HashMap<String, Object> map = new HashMap<>();
    map.put("whatever", map);
    int hash = map.hashCode();
  }

Ha Ha! (JDK-8 at least)

So wait… you are partially proud? :slight_smile:

Well wouldn’t you be after eating an entire pack of bacon?!? I feel like that’s what it’s truly like to be a grown up, knowing you can eat an entire pound of bacon and no one can tell you no :slight_smile:

This seems to be the case all the way back to Java 5. Neat.

Discovered I rank among the top 200 cubers nation wide. I guess that’s not that great, but I’m getting there… Averaging 17-18 seconds nowadays, with a best of 12.20.

On the coding side of things, still banging out code (and my head…) for my OS. Lots of underlying framework stuff like file system drivers, vfs code, and messing around with switching between ring 0 and 3.

Spent 3 hours in a chat room with 10 different Time Warner Cable “technicians” who tried to get my modem to work after I accidentally unplugged it. I even at one point was asked if “I had activated my modem”, if “the modem is on” and had someone take control of my computer remotely. In the end all they had to do was restart the damn thing and I’m sure do some networking magic that I probably don’t understand. But I’m amazed it took me 3 damn hours… now I’m exhausted and just want to sleep.

Yeah most of the time so-called technicians just ask stupid question… Like, really stupid ones. I once had a problem with my headphones, so they asked me to call a technician before being able to return them… He actually asked me what a jack plug was. :persecutioncomplex:

My ISP makes me pay for WLAN + internet for our plan. Which makes absolutely no sense since the router handles that as a hardware feature, not a service. Either way we pay $3CAD more a month for it.

thats just wrong. :frowning:

stupid techs is one side of the story - i worked for an ISP once and the worst customer support i witnessed was somebody who hammered a RJ45 plug into a RJ11 socket (violently) which is a bit smaller - for some reason that internet did not work.
