VM for XP

Hi

I understand that most of the people in this forum don’t care about the old Java any more, but some of us still build Applets the old way (1.1) so please if you know this, post a reply.

I need the Microsoft VM installation for use in Win XP systems (Windows update is out of the question).

I found a file on the net http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html, which works but it is slow and behaves more like some old Sun VM and not like the MS VM in let’s say Win ME.

Any ideas/suggestions/liks? Please help :-/

If you go to microsoft.com/java, the first article linked on that page explains that Microsoft will stop distributing and supporting their VM on 2nd Jan 2004, that is in about six months. Microsoft recomments to switch to .NET, but of course, anybody can also (and should) switch to the Sun JRE. I don’t see why you’d want to deploy new software that is based on a VM without future.

Especially a VM which had and as so many security problems. On the same page, there’s an article strongly recommending to upgrade to version 3810 of April 9th. It looks like the only way to officially get that version is the Windows Update site. I never would what to install any system update from some other suspicious site.

Actually, I also think the update site is also the easiest way. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with Mozilla… Why’s that way out of question for you?

All this info is very well known, for a long time now.

I just need the MS VM for having something solid to install each time I run 1.1 applets on a fresh system (and BTW it’s suggested by MS to developers, therefore it’s 100% legal).

I can also see how this thread could easily become a subject for flaming, so please support your favorite company somewhere else.

I would very much appreciate it if someone with experience on the matter could post something here.

Thanks

(btw, smilies are still fun)

Hey AndersDahlberg you’re a funny guy

Since you decided to tell us who you really are let me show you the real YOU. I only met 2 guys from the shithole called norway  and they were both smelly, stupid bastards, takin in up the ass, just like YOU. :o

Our goverment should not allow people as fucked up as the norwegians use US made OSs and languages, as they might believe one day that they are programmers and annoy us in forums like this one. Maybe one day, the proud US army will save us for norway too :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh and while we’re at it, SUCK MY DICK YOU FUCKIN’ QUEER! :-*

CyberJoe: grow up or go away.

If you can’t behave, go somewhere else - though AndersDahlberg’s comment was irrelevant, it was made as a humerous comment.

Your reply was just plain stupid. Please refrain from using such foul language on these boards - take it somewhere else.

why cant u just use jre 1.4? it will run 1.1 technology just as good as it used to.

Nobody likes Norwegians ehh? Well, I agree - except for the ladies and that they were a part of Sweden a couple of years ago and now that “some country” have begun making war on terrorist countries, Sweden government is secretly looking at how to justify a sneak attack at Norway (everybody know they are actually “commie terrorists” ;). We want that oil back 8)
</flame suite off>

Whoops, he disappeared! What a shame. ;D
