Software with configuration and runtime systems written by morons?
Spend hours getting the damn IDE to run.
Then, after spending 20 minutes configuring your system you find the entire system config is dedicated to a single workspace and has to be repeated for all other projects individually on every single minor change. Argh!
Then spending an hour trying to cunningly copy shared elements of the config around, only to discover that the config system is stored in a morass of impenetrable XML files sprawling semi-randomly across the filesystem - and that copying config miraculously somehow doesn’t actually copy it, as though Eclipse maintained a secret backup copy of the config somewhere, and ignored changes to it’s config made by extrenal text editors.

LOL.

Project managers.
Unit tests.
Adopting an open-source app in order to use, for instance, 8 core features, of which:
2 of them only exist on the author’s home PC, and he has been “meaning to upload them to CVS” for the last 12 months but not got around to it. The only way you discover this is by looking in a reply to an unrelated comment on the news announcement for a release made 3 months ago.
2 of them only exist in the latest version. Which is fine, except that…
…2 of them are broken in the latest version because the authors have never heard of regression testing.
1 is hard-coded to reference a file on “C:”. Even though that file is no longer used, or is optional, there is no handling of the filenotfoundexception or etc, so on all other platforms it simply crashes silently whenever you try to use the feature.
And the last one has a one in ten chance of corrupting or deleting the main document. However, since this is “open source” and “warranty free” the authors feel that there’s no reason why they should bother fixing this - it’s “use at your own risk” software, after all.

Hmm. You’d get on well with my younger brother. This is now the only game he plays (doesn’t play his PS2 any more…doesn’t have time - but says he “cannot resist” soldat, and regularly deletes it, only to re-download it a few weeks later).
PS have you changed your email address? The last two emails I sent you I got no reply, although I was expecting one… I assumed perhaps you were just too busy.
Last reply I sent you was on Tuesday:
My farmhouse is the one in the address on the Puppy Games site. (TA5 1HH)
Haven’t heard from you since…?

Argh. Hasn’t arrived :(. Could be a mis-filing by a spam-filter, I guess, but I find that quite unlikely. Unfortunately, I deleted the contents of all spam folders (general clean up of all the grex spam boxes) a few days ago, so I can’t go back and check. Could you send me another email? Sorry…
