So i’m not the only one with big coding plans getting stopped by the small things in life

I often plan to use a whole weekend, friday after school -> sunday night for codeprojectintensive sessions but i often find myself in front of the computer sunday evening with eclipse still in the background without a single line of code written. :’(

In a normal evening things like “the farm”, and “hotel cæsar” on tv gets in the way… and watching conspiracy documentaries… one time i started reading about food and how the body needs omega-3 and E-vitamins on www.merola.com, i think i started about 11am and went to sleep 7:30pm :’(

Ok, ok… so where do I find a games programming job near Bristol…

Job? JOB ?!? (c.f. previous comment ;D).

Oh, OK. You do need money. Well, you’ve now worked on a game with me, so you’re allowed to do what almost everyone who’s ever worked at Grex has done - go and get a job with Sony (only one person has bucked the trend so far…). There are studios in London, Liverpool, and Cambridge - although I don’t think any ex-Grex people have worked at the Liverpool studio (yet).

Or bide your time, finish a few games, publish on JGF, and…

Oh, yes, of course. Silly me. Almost forgot I was on TEH INTARWEB for a moment there.

Motivation. Personally, I go through phases of intense coding then nothing for a couple of months. I’ve found that short interesting projects are much easier to motivate myself to complet than larger projects.

I thought he was talking about a Betty Boop hand puppet or something.

Nup, never do that. But somehow, just before I start coding I usually have a new OS patch to download, or a bit more fiddling with the design, or some documentation that needs tightening up.

How come nobody mentioned documentation (or is that something we game programmers aren’t supposed to worry about  )

School is a big one for me. It used to be sleep, but I’ve learn to overcome that. No need for sleep when you’ve got a cup and a screenful of java :).
