The moderators should not unlock any topic when its creator locked it

Hi!

I locked this topic:
http://www.java-gaming.org/index.php/topic,22954.0.html
and someone unlocked it later to allow someone else to post. What is up? Some people here who aren’t moderators of this section are allowed to post in locked topics, aren’t they? It is not fair. Please respect the lock and remove any post sent after the lock was set. The feature “lock topic” is useless if some people (except moderators) are allowed to go on posting in these topics. Best regards.

I disagree. You don’t own the topic. Once you hit submit it becomes the property of JavaGaming, and as property of JavaGaming the mods and admins have the right to change it. I don’t even support the ability for OPs to lock topics. It should be a mod/admin job only.

So anyway, can you people stop trolling this guy? Seriously, he’s proven he will blow up EVERY time. This guy eats trollbait for breakfast.

So, the next time you think you should troll gouessej, just remember that the outcome is always the same. There is nothing new to be gained from pressing his buttons.

Grow up, etc.

Locking a topic is childish IMHO. You should always allow people to respond to whatever was said. Moderators can step in when things get out of hand, but locking your own topic is just sad. It’s like putting your fingers in your ears in the middle of a conversation.

I’d rather have that topic unlocked, but I’m not going to abuse my ‘banhammer’ privileges to do so.

I don’t think that threadstarters should be able to lock threads. But, since the mods is not acting very responsibly, I’m all with you.

For what its worth gouessej, you were right in the thread you blocked (in regards to the topic of discussion), unfortunately most of the other mob were just feeding off each other and they went a little over board.
Yet, I also agree with Riven in regards to locking your own topic. You know people on JGO well enough to anticipate how they will react to your posts, plus you are one of the most fun guys on this forum people cant help but get excited

Yes it is sad and I considered things were going bad enough to justify this lock.

I rarely lock a topic, it was only the second time. Thanks.

I did nothing wrong, I spoke about JOGL in the JOGL section. If it is no more possible, there is something wrong.

I don’t need to grow up.

You know some posts were completely off topic including yours.

I really think woogley adresses the other posters trolling in your thread…

Please do us all a favor and lock this thread.

FWIW gouessej, it wasn’t me, I’ve been asleep for the last 12 hours (finally).

For the record, I also don’t need to grow up. YOU grow up! :stuck_out_tongue:

And also: the moderators’ word is final and you should respect their decisions.
And also: JOGL fanboism isn’t going to get you anywhere. The whole topic reeked of API fanboism hence the subtle reminder in the first reply. Just don’t do it any more. And then let’s work towards just getting all the OpenGL bindings under one topic. A merge should be easy.

Cas

Fanboism? Is it forbidden to speak about the news concerning JOGL? Fanboism about your favorite OpenGL binding is allowed but talking about a piece of news about JOGL is not allowed, isn’t it? This topic almost immediately derivated, it is not my fault. As long as there are 2 separate OpenGL bindings, having 2 separate section is logical. Merge these both APIs and then it will be logical to have a single topic.

I wrote neither “it is a wonderful piece of news!!” nor “yippee!!!” nor “JOGL rocks!!!”, my topic had nothing to do with fanboism. As far as I know, someone answered that his favorite library is awesome, this is fanboism.

FWIW (probably little! ) - I’m with goussej on this, and I speak as someone using LWJGL. That thread was a little OTT and a bit distasteful - more like a gang of bullies than a bit of light mocking!

And anyway, as good as LWJGL is, any project that lets its website disappear for so long should perhaps not be quite so triumphalist at the moment! :stuck_out_tongue:

Not that anyone on here gives a Monkeys on my opinion, am with goussej on this too. Some of the replies to his original post were pretty childish. It’s no wonder some of the more respected ppl don’t post here anymore.

yeah thats a good point, and I do agree in regards to my own behaviour. none the less I enjoy the freedom of this forum even if that means that people will say the childish statement once in a while, its always entertaining.

Most correct. Also, happy belated birthday. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a mildly entertaining thread but honestly I didn’t intend for it to turn into gouessej poking. My metacriticism remains though: we’ve said it before and several times - it does not really serve the interests of the community to separate the forums on two essentially identical topics, namely OpenGL bindings, and gouessej could well remember that his topic was the sort of needless API worship that has earned him his reputation here in the first place. I’d like to ask the admins to do the consolidation and cleanup this forum needs as it’s far too disjointed.

Hardly surprising as it’s a very low key volunteer effort and we suffered a nasty hard disk crash, and it took a) that long to find someone who could fix it in between trying to rescue my own site and various others on there AND work full time and b) $680 of my own money just to get the thing back again and c) even more money to move the hosting (thanks mazon).

If anyone complaining about the reliability of the website would kindly donate the required money for a hot backup system we would of course be grateful. Until then you get what you pay for.

:o
If only there was some LWJGL-based game that acts like a monetary black hole, sucking all forms of currency into its gaping, ravenous mouth and depositing concentrated ingots of mad coin in Sweden…
