The Escapist!

now “The Escapist” is a really funny game but am thinking there is alot the developer could have added to the game for ex:

Player vs Player - the one that escapes first wins, and players can sabotage one another
Selling Items to Gain Money
More Stuff to do with crafted Items
More Crafting’s Over all

that is a small list of things

now what am thinking is creating a better version of the game with co-op and pvp
and more crafting’s and more choices and bigger maps and harder guards
and create crafting’s such as:

Chest that you can have underground
Bags
Upgrade Inventory
And more activities to to then just training and working with metal =P

tell me what you think or if you want to be a part of this project i have already started making a big list off stuff to be added to the game just started making the list so its not that big yet but well what am i suppose to do =D

Did I miss something or does that post make no sense?

Just… Slowly hit the back button. Possibly throw your hard drive in some liquid nitrogen.

@VIrtueeL: you’re falling into a trap that a lot of novice (and not-so-novice) developers fall into: you’re biting off way more than you should be chewing. The best advice anybody can give you is to start MUCH smaller.

Ideas are cheap. It’s easy to say “we should make XYZ game, but with ABC instead!”. The hard part is actually creating, finishing, and marketing the darn thing.

It’s cool that you’re thinking in terms of a developer and seeing opportunities to improve things, but this type of project is NOT something to take on lightly. Start with a much smaller project and work your way up- maybe create a series of mini-games that explore the different ideas you mentioned. After all, if you’re going to create the whole big thing, you might as well start with the basics so people know to take you seriously, right?

This video was on your YouTube channel:

I think that it is in incredibly bad taste that you, as a self proclaimed “Indie Developer”, criticize a game that you presumably pirated and went on to create a video showing how to pirate the game. When questioned about the legality (or lack thereof) of your exploits, you replied (via YouTube comments)
yup a 100% - the number of hours i spend on coding so its 100% - 2511252e245% so that means its ilegal by -2.511252e+249% xD, rly i dont think anybody cares so =D
Yes, this is very illegal and yes, people care. The people who developed this game are using this as their income and you’ve just walked in and tried to shit on that. Imagine if someone started walking up to, taking your wallet, taking out 15 dollars out and walking off to give it to someone else, only to return the next day to do it again?

Looking at your channel, you’ve done the same thing to Bordlerands: The Pre-Sequel, Rust, Far Cry4, Sony Vegas and Fraps.

I don’t see how you will ever be able to sell a game, when people will be able to look at your channel and see a thief! It’s extremely unprofessional, especially if you’re expecting people to play your games! If you want people to take you seriously at all, you need to go find yourself a small number of things:

 • Dictionary
 • A moral code
 • Some form of filter between what you think and what you do

I don’t understand how you can be learning how to become an independent developer with the eventual goal of making money off of your games and promote the pirating of other games. How can you think that developers don’t care about their product? Independent companies don’t have a lot of money to begin with so every pirated download your video promotes can really hurt an indie company. In addition, your videos tarnish your reputation among game developers and players alike. Here’s my advice, delete the videos on pirating games, remove any links to any files you have off the internet, and take being an indie developer seriously.

(plus, why would you put a video on how to pirate Far Cry 4 on your channel. I’m sure a big name publisher like Ubisoft really doesn’t appreciate that)

Yeah, I noticed these videos a while back when I was looking at his channel, I think we were discussing in #JGO how old VIrtueeL may be and then we stumbled on those videos and thought to ourselves “seriously?”

It’s one thing to be a developer, and not bothering to stop people from pirating. That’s what I do, the only time I go after pirates for RPC is if the download is malware infested and it’s harmful to the users, otherwise I don’t care. It’s another thing entirely to show people how to ripoff what should be your fellow developers.

These people are developers just like you, but who just happened to actually get off their asses and create something. You might as well put up a video about where to find a Retro-Pixel Castles. Farsky, Daedalus and Revenge of The Titans torrent while you’re at it, because your behavior is very insulting to the real developers out there that you’re striving to be someday.

I’m sure you just thought “But I would never put up a torrent of your guy’s games! It’s JGO and they’re my friends!” … but guess what? The people you don’t know are just as important, and worked just as, or harder than we all did to get where we are. Just because you can’t put a face on them doesn’t make them any less important.

wanders off grumbling about ethics, morals and maturity

Reported the video.

Creating a list of things to do is the easiest bit, I doubt he’ll get beyond that stage - probably get distracted by something shiny.

“The Escapist”

well they basically created a game that was successful, and then don’t give a f**k about it?

the project will probably end up as this game

“Cube World”

they made the game and released a early access to the game! and when lots off ppl bought it they stopt developing on it

“JackSepticEye” played “The Escapist” and around 500.000 ppl watch the video
at-least 10 - 30 % is gonna buy it coos of him lets just say!

game costs 13.99£

round that up to
14£

14£ to dollar

16.80$

round up to 17$

now 17 x 150.000 <-- lets say an easy 150.000 ppl has bought it - Thanks to “JackSepticEyes” videos that has 500.000 - 600.000 views

that is 2.55 million Dollars

even if we round down that’s allot of fucking money =O

and they cant bother to add multiplayer and some new game-mode to the game?

That 2.55 million is not pure profit. Only a fraction of that 2.55 million was actually profit.

So now.

firstSubtraction = 2.55 million - cost of development.

now we are getting closer to the profit.

secondSubtraction = firstSubtraction - money to be put into the next game to be developed.

now we have how much profit they actually made. I can’t give you values, as I do not know them, and I do not know how much they got paid per developer.

you could even subtract the cost of what it takes to keep their office rent / power bills / internet bills / what ever else is needed to keep their business and office up.

thirdSubtraction = secondSubtraction - business or office costs.

that 2.55 million could actually mean their behind in profit, and lost money because of this game they made.

still lots off money! why not update the game and grow a community with it then they can use that community to advertise there new games?

 • JackSepticEye

is not the only one that has played that game =O so it can be easily over 400.000 - 600.000
ppl that has bought it but we cant really see that can we so its just wild guess!

And how does this justify thievery?

coos they make ppl pay for something that is not even finished than stops developing on it -.-
so i think ppl can get it for free that they don’t need to buy a game that has discontinued!

This post is a lot of shite and will do nothing but start a flame war.

VIrtueelL, go and make a successful game and you will see what it takes to maintain and update it. A lot of people make games and enjoy making them, they realise close to the end of the development cycle it is not what they wanted it to be, they get burned out and release it as planned. The money from this goes into another project, not one they have no interest in.

Stop making those videos, grow up.

To the chit-chat monster with this pish.

 1. They have to give Steam their cut, so it’s not really 2.5 millions
 2. It doesn’t matter if they made 10 billion off it, it’s their money, their game, and they deserve to be paid for it, regardless of how much they’ve already been paid.
 3. Last game update was December 23rd, 2014, with their last general announcement 2 fricken days ago.
 4. If somehow 2 is wrong (even though their Steam page says otherwise), then explain Borderlands: TPS, Rust, Far Cry 4, Sony Vegas and Fraps?
 5. You have no right to decide for yourself that their game should be free.
 6. You, as a so-called game developer should know, you don’t just “add multiplayer”. If the game isn’t designed to handle it, you’re asking them to basically rewrite half the code for a feature you think it needs (and they obviously don’t, and are doing fine without it)

Quit trying to justify yourself, your behavior is highly insulting to Indie Developers everywhere.

ok well i have deleted those videos now btw :cranky: my rust video had 2300 views :frowning:

Good for you

They aren’t making you pay for something. You don’t have to buy it. You don’t have to play it.

If you don’t like the game, don’t buy it. Don’t play it.

You’re trying to profit off of ripping people off (one of your other threads says that one of your main goals is to gain YouTube subscribers), which won’t get you very far.

You’ve taken the videos down now just to stop us complaining at you, but I really hope you think long and hard about the type of developer, and the type of person you want to be.

You’re probably young and have plenty of time to change your attitude, but hopefully that change starts sooner rather than later.

Something I learned a long time ago is humans tend to think it’s “ok” to ripoff the faceless organization using justifications like “It won’t hurt them”, “they’re rich anyway”, or “they’re somehow evil because I want them to be so I’m not bad”, that’s why even at this very moment VIrtueeL doesn’t think it’s wrong he was offering people a way to steal games like FarCry 4, he just dropped the videos because he was tired of us complaining. The fact he’s worry about his 2,300 views and not the fact he’s an unethical ass proves that without a shadow of a doubt. He’s very short sighted, hopefully that will change when he’s older. Sadly, it seldom does. The best we can do is call him out on it so he learns what his parents never taught him before he gets thrown in jail for some stupid crap, like stealing a hat at Walmart “because it’s cool”. :stuck_out_tongue:

With that, I’m done ranting. This entire thread infuriates me, I don’t understand how people can be this short sighted in the world. So I’m leaving the conversation before I force Riven to send me to the padded room.
