SUPER ELVIS beta testers required

Hoo-bloody-rah, the laughably described “80hour game development experiment” Super Elvis is finally nearing completion about 6 months late. We’ll be going into beta testing for Win32 and Linux x86 next week.

I have sent a lovely spam from the Puppygames forums to my last lot of beta testers but it’s quite likely it got filtered out by zealous ISPs, so I thought I’d post here too.

Your duties will be:

[]Give me your machine specs
[
]Play each level in Super Elvis, all 81 of them, and rate it for difficulty, and fun, separately.
[]Spot any bugs and glitches
[
]Suggest trivial improvements (I’m waaay beyond arsing around with cool new features now!)

and your prize will be a free copy of Super Elvis and Alien Flux, and a warm thankyou in a scrolly message

I know it’s a lot to ask etc. etc. but I’m totally broke and can’t afford to pay anyone to test it. It probably won’t earn a bean anyway but we can but try eh?

Cas

Heh, come on now, if the game that won the Sun Gaming Contest (in its early incarnation) can’t make some money what hope is there!?

No beta testing for me, I want it to be fresh to play when it comes out and I can finally buy my copy!

Kev

Ye, got the email… the from and to fields are the same… uh :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I’m in again

Suggest trivial improvements

Add a cheatcode, which displays the level number in the upper left corner (that makes taking notes easier).

I’d like to participate in the beta test.

My machine specs are

Dell Inspiron 5150 3.02 Ghz (Laptop)
MS Windows XP Professional SP2
512MB Ram
GeForce fx5200
Java 1.4.2 & Java 1.5

I look forward to hearing from you.

Andy.

I’d also like to help out!

Toshiba Satellite 2.0 Ghz Celeron (laptop)
MS Windows XP Professional SP2
512MB Ram
Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller (64mb 3D card with no pixel nothin’ support, but other GL 1.2 features)
Java 1.4.2 & Java 1.5

What was that you were saying @ ECTS, about how long SE was going to take?

I think it’s great news. And I’m in. With my dodgy GF2go/16Mb which doesn’t like being overloaded with too much data…

Cas,

I’d love to help with beta testing… can’t remember the exact machine specs I have at home (sad, isn’t it) but it’s a decent box with a new ATI card. I’ll get more infor later in the day.

On one condition as well: I’d still like to buy my copy of the game.

Cheers,

Bill

edit:

Here’s my machine at home:

Win2K
AMD Athlon
512 Mbyte RAM
ATI Radeon 9600

I would gladly help the effort by offering to beta test (kul_th_las@hotmail.com)

System Specs:

Machine#1

AMD Athlon 950 Mhz
384MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX 400 (64 MB)
WinXP Pro SP2
Java 1.4.2 (but I’ll install another version for testing if you like)

Machine #2

AMD Athlon 1800+
512MB RAM
GeForece 3 Ti500 (128 MB)
WinXP Pro SP2
Java 1.4.2 & 5.0 only

I actually have a third machine available for testing - it’s a new G5 iMac, but last I heard lwjgl doesn’t work on OS X, which I assume you are using.

I’d like my shot at helping out:

WinXP on Compaq Laptop
1.3ghz / 512Meg
ATI mobility card
java1.4.2_05

What happens if we can’t make it to all 81 levels?

Dr. A>

you’re beaten with a stick and forced to stay awake and drink energy drinks and play until you finish or your eyes pop out… whichever comes first. But if your eyes pop out, you don’t get your free copy!

Cas,

It might be a good idea to produce some sort of excel spreadsheet that all the beta testers fill out, that way you should be able to collate the results more easily and produce some nice metrics and graphs.

Just a thought,

Andy.

I’d be happy to test it out for you, machine spec:

p4 2.8
512 ddr
geforce fx 5900
audigy LS
win xp
jre 1.4.2

Was thinking just a text file arranged thusly:

000000000
000000000
000000000
000000000
000000000
000000000
000000000
000000000
000000000

where you put a H for too hard, E for too easy, B for boring, or F for too frustrating, or ? for couldn’t figure out what to do.

Beta testers can test any level they want by holding down the CTRL key

Cas

Count me in.

Windows XP PRO
AMD 1.0 GHz
ASUS GeForce4 MX440 64MB
512MB RAM
Java v1.4.2

Ah, alright… seems to be ok ish that way, too

where you put a H for too hard, E for too easy, B for boring,
or F for too frustrating, or ? for couldn’t figure out what to do.

Maybe something like k for ok? I mean hey… it’s unlikely that all levels are either too hard, too easy, boring, frustrating or confusing

Good idea, I seem to have forgotten the possibility that somebody might actually like one of the levels as it is…

Cas

Are you going to notify us or should we just start testing?

Regards,
Dr. A>

Far be it from me to abandon a brother Java programmer in need!

;o)

Here are my machine specs:

Windows XP Home SP2
AMD XP 2200+
512 MB Ram
Geforce 4 MX
Java 1.5

All things being well it’ll be ready by the 1st November and I’ll be in touch with you all.

Cas

It wasn’t among your platforms, but I would be happy to test it on the macintosh if (when?) you want.
