Rock stars, banning and cleaning up messages...

It’s a forum on the internets…

ChrisM was right: it isn’t a democracy. But it’s a place where many of us love to come to (including me, teletubo, and Riven) and if it became some kind of terrible atmosphere and people started leaving we certainly wouldn’t benefit. I think we can all promise to try to be reasonable and apologize when we make mistakes. You could call it a “benevolent autocracy,” where Riven is the autocrat who has trickled a bit of power down to the League of Dukes. Sometimes we, you, and [you] won’t agree with his or Dukes’ decisions, but I think we can all promise to try to be fair.

Are you refering to my avatar, or to my behaviour?

If it’s the avatar, well, I never thought of it as either provoking or edgy. I thought what I created was art-ish.

If it’s my behaviour, sorry, I can’t help myself.

lol owned. to think that Riven would be owned by his own stupid you-tag one of these days =D

totally pwned !

btw. I’m in favor of removing the < you > tag .

I can only agree with Chris. You (or anybody else), as a member, have no rights on a forum you visit. Even if all members would demand a certain action or feature, there is no way to enforce that demand to the administrator. You can threaten to leave, spam, hack or DOS the site, just like you can destroy property in real life, but that’s about it. In the end, it’s either what the administrator wants, or what the law in the country is the server is hosted, which is kinda far fetched, but still.

Any influence or power you are given, is purely the result of the administrator being (somewhat) social and caring about the community.

Having said that, I think we can all agree m77 deserves a second chance, after some time, more time and two times less time.

;D gullible :point:

I told myself to adjust the [ you ]-tag a bit, once I fell for it. The day has come people! :persecutioncomplex:

As soon as I see my handle these days in here I know I’m being tricked  But a good idea to put the subtle hint in though.

I think princec is wrong.

Kev

Get off my lawn!

Cas

Yes, nuke that tag! Life’s confusing enough already without [you] making things worse!
I’m sorry to see anyone banned, but I also object to loads of attention-seeking or provocative posts wasting everyone’s time.
I think this was quite gently dealt with compared to other forums where I’ve seen posts and threads deleted and users banned without any explanation. Good for JGO! (and come back m77 when you’ve calmed down a bit!)

Luckily for me the [ you ] tag is obvious because nobody ever refers to me by “Eli Delventhal,” usually it’s just Eli.

Riven, I like the change.

I shall work to change that, Eli Delventhal.

Sorry, it does not make me laugh. I just think cylab shouldn’t expect this forum to be a democratic place, it isn’t. I understand Riven’s position and I thank him for his efforts, JGO is quite fine. I seriously think that cylab said something really important, moderators must set limits but they should not ban someone just because he is “abnormal”. In my humble opinion, (at least) some decisions should be taken democratically and nobody should be proud of saying that this forum is not democratic. Democracy is precious.

Actually i don’t expect nor require a forum to be democratic. I just want to be able to comprehend whats going on…

Democracy is precious hmm? In principle it seems like a good idea, but its implementation in most societies appears to be deeply flawed. And there’s no real proof it’s the best thing for everybody. That’s a very modern idea.

Cas

There is no such thing as Democracy. Maybe Lobbycracy - or Idiocracy…

If you view an internet forum as another person’s home, all the apparent lack of freedom of speech and democracy makes perfectly sense.

In your home, you don’t have to listen to other people’s ideas etc. You can just send away unwanted persons like door salesmen when they want to come in and sell their stuff. It is your home/server space and you can decide to censor anything you want without telling anyone your reasons, but then you might not get so many friends

JGO’s monarchy system seems to work pretty well, we already have a bunch of dukes, just need to rename Riven II & ChrisM to King and Queen and the rest to peons, should clarify matters

Then we start doing witch hunts too. Should we start from [you]?
