Reduce Forum Count

  • Collapse JOGL/LWJGL into Java OpenGL
  • Collapse Java 3D / Xith / JMonkey into Java 3D Libraries
  • Collapse Java Sound / joal into Java Audio
  • Rename J2ME to Mobile Games (get an Android forum with no additional work then)
  • Community and Volunteer Projects probably sits in Community Works now anyway

On an unrelated note, half the moderators (mojomonkey, cfmdobbie, darkprophet, Jeff, Herkules) don’t visit the forum often any more. Not to mention the forums that have no moderators (other than global of course, all hail!) at all.

EDIT: Kappa points out some of that was here. So can we have this aswell.

Not sure what Kev means when he says “Collapse”, but IMO it would be great if “Collapse” meant that they became Child Boards, like the Contest section has.

So, you wouldn’t rename J2ME to Mobile Games, you’d create a Mobile Games section with J2ME and Android as Child Boards.

I despise the child boards tbh, too hard to navigate, most of the forums here have little traffic so it might as well be lumped together.

Not to bothered though, just so we can have a bit more diverse postings here. Obviously I’ve a vested interest in getting some more mobile stuff going.

i agree there are too many forum sections and JGO needs a clean up.

I agree with this. If possible, I think it sufficient to merge two inactive forum sections.

Yes, but people might disagree with me. Since I’m not uberactive on these forums at the moment and the last tiny thing I changed caused massive complaining, I don’t really feel comfortable. =)

Yeah, I agree with you guys. I’ll try to get on this, and I’m PMing Chris now to see if he can get a script installed for merging forums (as we currently don’t have that capability). I’m not particularly interested in moving each topic one-by-one. :slight_smile:

But once I’ve got that script in here, I’ll definitely start collapsing some of these forums. I’ll go ahead and remove inactive moderators now.

I since decided that I’ll do what I think works best and no matter what it is somebody is going to get annoyed, so there’s nothing I can do about it. I’ve even been called “power-hungry” by a few people. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s just a clear indicator that something is actually being changed, no?

I don’t really agree with this. It seems like reducing the number of forums just to have less forums doesn’t justify mixing posts about different 3d libraries (and so forth) together. It’s not like having less forums will drastically improve navigating JGO.

Then again, I don’t really care. I’ve hardly used any of the forums mentioned, so it’s not anything that affects me.

I agree and would also like to see the number of subforums reduced drastically.
