Platform Hardware Restrictions

Astroprime is moving along (quite slowly, but still), I’m looking at using a different control method since the current one makes it a bit hard to fly.

I was considering an Alien Flux style control, but then realised that uses two mouse buttons! Do Mac’s still only have one mouse button?

Erg…

Is there anything else that we need to watch for?

Kev

Mac’s don’t count.

The only reason we(*) haven’t smashed them all to bits yet is because they’re kinda cute, in a 300mhz-childish color-single mouse button kind of way.

(* the resistance)

If Macs still only had monochrome monitors would you cater to that? If a computer isn’t up with current standards, especially something as fundamental as this, that’s the computer owner’s fault, not yours. When I bought my Mac I immediately replaced the mouse, same with every Mac owner I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t worry about it.

besides, I had one reviewer switched thrust to be a key on the keyboard instead, rather like a lot of quake players do.

Cas

Sorry, didn’t mean to get people all worked up  I just wanted to check how other people are handling it. Also wanted to open a topic to list anything that we should take into account from platform to platform…

Thanks for info tho, I’ll make sure everything is configurable and just ignore Mac mouse oddities…

Kev

Macs usually ship with a single button mouse. But 2 or three button mice work fine out of the box. Also, the second button is emulated with CTRL-click in AWT. JInput will only see one button though.

Just make button actions assignable to any button or key and the ‘problem’ goes away.
