Hello Tim,
If you look at racing games, they have a āghost carā, replaying previous record runs on the track.
You could implement this in your game,
having a ghostshape of a previous best-time run. (needs a defined start and
exit line then)
(Technically this is simple position/rotation record data, leaving out some frame this can be compressed
to a few Kilobytes)
Now next to seeing your own record run, (stored locally)
you could upload this online to your server to share, compare and compete with others.
Its more fun to see your opponent running than just a simple record time to compare.
Update
Challenge mode is now available with a new level just designed for it!! Find your way to get the best time.
Some optimization will be added later on this mode. I donāt have the time for it right now (holidays are coming :P), but Iāll do that in August with some more challenge levels.
Enjoy !
@Damocles: thanks for your support. Youāre idea is good, yet Iām not planning to push this project this far. I have many optimization and potential functionality in mind for this game, but I know i wonāt program it. Iād rather not planning to do them than disappointing peopleā¦
@Giovanni: thanks for your feedback, Iāll try to clear those problems for next time.
6 seconds? how did you get that time?
5.72! Figuring out which blocks to click
Mike
Had a registered time of 3.68!
Bugs:
Sometimes when I go too quick the timer gets set to 0 and starts ticking again when I enter the finish line and doesnāt stop ticking until I die. If you die when it is set to 0 the only way to get it to start again is going through the finish line, making that heat not count.
The lava is still buggy, you have a 1/30 or so chance to land in the middle of it and stand still without dying (moving or jumping kills you).
When going really quick through the finish line it doesnāt always register.
Mike
I see what bug is causing you to go through the gate without stopping the timer. Iāll try to correct that before leaving.
And congratulation for your time, itās pretty impressive!!
Iām on a mac with OpenGL 2.1, and the game runs, but I canāt rotate.(i.e. Iām always looking straight ahead).
Wow, amazing. This is really a confidence boost for me, seeing a successful, 3D Java game, which brings hope for mine
Waw amazing game!
There are a few issues though (just my opinion). I mean I wouldnāt be able to create such amazing game myself, but if you want feedback you need to accept the negatives ones too
Letās categories the issues:
WEBSITE:
-Design wise, it needs improvement.
-People always have the habit to press āEnterā after inputting their login credentials. It doesnāt work here (part of your applet)
GAME:
MENU:
-A few design issues, text is not centered in your buttons.
-Try to keep the same flow in your menu design (if you center the text in buttons, use it in your options too) Or use something else instead of buttons.
-Where is your game title? except for the websites.
INGAME:
-What does the 0,75m mean on each of the selectable yellow cubes?
-As goes for the menu items: Try to keep your design pattern/flow the same in all levels:
-Some levels have too many āsimpleā possibitilies. For example try to avoid this:
If you have portal2, Qube, Quantumā¦ Youāll see that none of them have such open small spaces
with ease access to the finish. This level can be a tutorial for a challenge though!
-There are a few level bugs, for example when I fall in the corner (as indicated on next image) I die but do get loaded into next level:
-I suppose this shouldnt happen? The red rectangle is where I can stand. the rest is plain texture, no blocks.

-As some of the members also stated: You have a chance to stand on Lava.
Please do not get me wrong with this post! Cause I really like your game and Iām soooo in love with your color pallet!
Seems weird but god some people have difficulties choosing the right color combination!
Guys we found him. The ultimate designer. Youāll fit well in here goowik
Look Iām not sure what level of sarcasm youāre implying but Iām just trying to help.
( And yes, I have issues understanding when someone uses sarcasm :ā( )
Iām usually bad at expressing myself in these type of topics. Sometimes I go waaaay to farā¦
I myself have issues with designing. When creating websites I try to find patterns in others I like.
When choosing colors for a design it takes me hours and even after a few days I change. I have difficulties making choices.
Iām not implying that Iām a perfectionist, but I like my stuff to be organized, User friendly, care for detail.
If people donāt like it, I donāt mindā¦ and I wont try to disprove em. Itās just my opinion and I respect others.
If some donāt like what I write, please do tell me
Well targeted critical feedback is nice and helpful for making good games.
I donāt think he was being sarcastic.
No sarcasm at all. Your skills are rare and very much in need
Best I could do. I hate you guys.
Whaaa!!! Stop this sarcasm-or-not-sarcasm!!!
@goowik: Your feedback is really excellent: accurate and helpful. Thanks a lot ! Iāll try to make some changes according to your notes. Yet I wonāt spend too much time on this game (Iām working on something elseā¦). I 'll just put some new Challenge levels and make sure everything is fine.
For the 0.75m, I put it at first in order to have a length indication. Then I thought it was a good idea to have a small text on a box, did not change it because I didnāt see what to put instead, and after many game modifications it is still hereā¦ haha ! ;D
I guess you like things polished, and it is actually a good thing. Itās not perfectionism.
ra4king: 10/10.
Someone beat my time with 2 hundreds of a second, time to play some again!
Mike
EDIT: Ha! 3.49
