Ouya: a $99 Android game console

I’m guessing though that there will be a validation process that will be somewhat stricter than Google Play, because of the obligatory free-to-play part. Although they might be able to automate that validation.
But very little is known, and I have the feeling that a lot of that is simply not fixed yet.

All the ‘hackability’ is nice and all, but I do hope that there will be some control and protection in place in their own content delivery infrastructure.

I see what you mean. It mustn’t become the ideal place for malwares.

If they dont have in-system payment which involves your card, we can take a (little) breath.

Big hype.
But that’s actually the reason why it could work - when arguments and facts lose relevance.
It will cost more and it won’t be finished on time, just like any project people are doing.
But nonetheless, it is interesting and I hope it will succeed

Anyway, we will learn a lot of things with this project and this knowledge might be reused in further ones.

I contacted the dev team some days ago, their reply about engine support is very inaccurate. They claim to wish supporting all engines, that’s all. I know Unity will be probably supported on it.

Probably all Android game engines will run on it, which includes Unity and Unreal Engine. The question is to what extent these engines already support the standard Android APIs for controllers (assuming the Ouya controller is compatible with the standard APIs).

If the API for this controller is exposed in the NDK, we will be able to do whatever we want with it.

Lucky you, i’m still waiting for a reply…

Julie even did a spelling mistake when typing my full name… Which email address did you use?

devs@ouya.tv, didn’t bounce.

It did the same :-\

Anyway, there are some rumors suggesting that this project is a scam.

Week 1: The internet says Ouya is the greatest thing ever.
Week 2: The internet says Ouya is a scam.
Reality: Probably somewhere in between.

Typical internet.

I wasn’t affirmative, I hope it is clear. Intel contributes to x86 support, I’m still not sure that Ouya will support OpenJDK or at least JavaSE For Embedded. If Ouya becomes an attractive platform and if Android DVM becomes popular in desktop environments, Java will be really fragmented, what Sun wanted to avoid will happen.
