New feature: picture of the day

I’ve been planning to add an Picture of the Day for at least two years now, but I never got around to do it. A few hours ago I noticed the screenshot saturday on sunday thread and it basically screamed for proper forum integration! So here it is: a preliminary version this new JGO addon, also reachable through the sidebar, ofcourse.

You can easily add your screenshots and other members can vote on them, rating them on a scale from 1 to 7, which you can change once you have voted.

Every day the image with the highest average rating will take its place in the hall of fame, provided there are at least 5 votes and it has a ‘good rating’ - the threshold is kept a secret, for obvious reasons. If none of the participating images meet this requirement, that day will not have a specific image in the hall of fame and the last POTD will be shown in the sidebar.

Feedback is welcome, as always

I have no idea what those radio boxes mean. Which end is -1 and which end is >9000?

You silly… now I had to add pretty colors.

Nice, looking good

I like pretty colo(u)rs!

What about a caption/link to show when clicking the image? For me it does not make much sense just an image with any info whatsoever.
IMO the image of the day may be something that attracts users to something, like a game or a project.
(Well, maybe I’m wrong, I’ve never used an “Image of the day” feature before)

That’s already coded in the database and the ‘model’, just not in the UI

Edit: added it to the UI too.

Is green good or bad? :clue:

Nice cloud sim – any more details on it?

Oh yeah 8)

cool !

is it normal that I can see a picture of my game submitted even if I did not submit anything ? ( or maybe I’m a sleepwalker sleepposter  ). The file is uploaded in “My files” but I’ve never uploaded anything in there either.

Or maybe I was a test case ?

cool feature anyway !

I’m assuming green is good. Also HeroesGraveDev’s image won’t load.

They load here. I can’t fix the reliability of his server

Yeah, I accidentally broke the link, and I can’t change it.

I just resubmitted it.

Then I pressed F5 to check it worked and accidentally submitted it 3 more times before reailsing I hadn’t got the new link and it was still broken. :stuck_out_tongue:

Got it working finally. (By the way, it’s not a screenshot, it’s just concept art. It says picture of the day, so I guess it counts)

Any chance of an option to remove images?

I have a few suggestions, if you have the time:

  1. Vote for multiple screenshots at once. It’s a bit time-consuming voting them one at a time and then having to wait for the page to reload. It’s okay at the moment, as there aren’t that many to vote for, but in the long term it could take a while. Maybe if you kept the radio buttons as the are, but put only one vote button at the top, then people could vote for however many they liked with one button-click. (I guess the only problem with this one is working out which ones weren’t voted for and removing them from the vote list)

  2. Remove/Edit your own screenshots in the case that (like me (^^see my above post^^)) you broke a link or need to remove a screenshot.

Other than that, everything else seems to work fine. Good job.

Seems you can’t see your own pic’s rate.

Ofcourse not. Once it’s out in the open, people will try to manipulate it. There is filtering going on behind the scenes to prevent abuse.

Yeah you right, worth my curiosity.

Hey today’s is Daedalus!

Yeah, I like this idea.

What is really needed is one vote button. You put radio options for as many pictures as you want, scroll to the bottom and vote for all of them at once. The ones you did not put an option to, are the ones left behind. If you want to re-vote, you can make each one of those in this method, to make abuse a bit harder.

That is just my 2 cents.

Haha cool, my pic is todays POD i see.
Hover now it got my curiosity, it would be cool to see how its rated, how many voted and the users who have voted.
