Ludum Dare 29 (Beneath the Surface)

I’ve participated as well and am now done, anyone want to check it out? http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-29/?action=preview&uid=36159

Nice… have to check that out later… still need to finish mine  Like every ludum dare around this time I have something somewhat playable, but it doesn’t make any sense XD

Well, I’m back.

Yes, I have taken inspiration from Legends of Yore.

Unfortunately, I put too much time into the wrong areas of the game, and so I’m pulling out of the compo and entering the jam instead. At the moment “Beneath the Surface” is only mentioned, and not actually added to the storyline.

Well, the compo is over now.
How did everyone that managed to enter it go?

And who’s still going for the Jam?

I came across a crippling bug in my code and didn’t complete it. :frowning:
I won’t have time to keep going for the jam.

I implemented the attack and evade AI in the last 30-40 minutes of the compo (maybe that’s why the AI is so aggressive) XD Included the sound at 3:00. uploaded the build, noticed a game breaking bug :frowning: but it’s fixed now.

You can download and try it here: http://files.mentex.ch/public/music/atombrot/ld29-cellular-1.1.jar

Would be nice to have some feedback (if it even runs on other machines) ;), the packaging process with gradle went so good, there has to be something wrong

erm, ist it normal that I cannot see the links on my profile page? do they wait with the links until upload time is complete?

I ended up getting a good twenty hours of sleep during this affair. Or at least twenty hours of down time where I wasn’t actively working on game. Perhaps even longer. xD

As it is, it turned out alright. I spent too much time working on making it a grid aligned movement thing as well as in trying to make pushable blocks and other fun. They’re in the code still, at least bits and pieces are, but they don’t show up in the game because I realized that I didn’t have enough time to make levels and do the (Shitty) UI that I had. :\

@UprightPath: I tried out the web version of your game but got an error… Cannot copy from the debug textbox though.

You maybe also might want to make the screen size a bit bigger in the web version. We mad that mistake last time. Got many complaints that our web version was way to small

Yeah, I’m aware. There’s a note in my submission about that (It was at the bottom, I bumped it to the top xD). I can’t figure out why it’s not playing nicely there. Maybe it doesn’t like using an asset loader or something? Anyway, it’s been giving me issues the whole time. The Desktop version should work though. I hope. :\

The desktop version runs fine. It’s just when you resize the window, the ui goes missing

I had no idea!

And after dicking around with it a bit I can’t seem to provide a method to fix it. Hm.

Here’s mine: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-29/?action=preview&uid=34713

I wanted to put up a web version, but just gave up. I don’t think GWT (I used LibGDX) liked my game. Even though, the competition was really fun. This is my first “real” game and I’m pretty satisfied with finally completing something bigger than tetris.

I’m having that issue as well when it comes to loading assets. :\ There might need to be something special in that regard that needs to be done. Heh.

@UprightPath I guess fixing bugs and re-uploading is not allowed (saw your comment)?

Fixing game-breaking bugs: Allowed
Adding/tweaking anything: Not allowed.

It’s really down to the honour system, though.

Well, I’ve tried to fix it for a bit now. Recompiling, reuploading… I think it’s an issue with the asset manager class. But I don’t know for sure.

Also, I think porting on other systems after the compo is encouraged (at least it was). This is so you can concentrate on the game and don’t have to worray about those problems

good news, my gwt port is running. bad news, i had to tune the effects down and still it starts to lag when to much is going on on the screen.

Have a try: http://atombrot.com/ld29-low

The screens look nice. Has been bad luck with the circumstances.

It’s not Java, but here’s my entry (Linux only as I have to cross-compile):

Oh, and Rust programs are blazingly fast. ;D

My entry is an FPS game, written using my own game engine, JOGE (Java Open Game Engine). The game engine uses the Java2D API, but is rendering in 3D.

Here is the website for the game (although you have to download the game to play it): http://www.martus.se/ld29/surface_invaders/
