Linux gaming websites that refuse Java games: please protest!!!

Hi!

Some Linux gaming websites refuse including Java games in their listings (they say our games are not games :(). Please help me to protest to force them to stop this discrimination against Java! Java rocks!

I need some help especially on the following French website:
http://www.jeuxlinux.fr

I wrote this to defend Java gaming:

It would be fine if some French or francophone authors protested with me, we are stronger together.

I don’t speak/read french, so I can’t really read that.
But I have to point out that many of the examples you post in that thread aren’t really great quality games. Post some of cas’s stuff, or tribal trouble, or wurm, or runescape.

Or minecraft.

I hereby protest. Let them know.

There is nothing like waking up to a funny cartoon in the morning! Thanks for that.

Flash has a lot of amazing games and a huge quantity. The best thing I think to do is actually put out better and more content to make an argument on what a site puts up.

Submit a game wrapped up in a exe or w/e linux use, how would they know if its Java? Then if they accept it then say its made in Java…

They refuse java games? What about Tribal Trouble (http://www.jeuxlinux.fr/a43-Tribal_trouble.html)?

I think they refuse sub par games.

And you can’t blame anybody for a healthy aversion of applets.

If you submit a great, standalone game programmed in Java, I’m sure they won’t refuse.

gasp! Why so?

Mostly because they’re total shit, or the whole user experience is total shit.

Cas

I assume they did not notice it uses Java lol.

6 months ago I asked them to modify DLJ in order to allow the addition of Java games, it has never been done. I asked them to include at least Jake2, it has never been done too.

After some tough disputes, they agree now only to include very good games using Java Webstart or a native installer, they don’t want applets.

I guess we’ll be seeing Xenplat on there soon than :stuck_out_tongue:

double gasp! I’ve recently had some good experiences with applets! Surely they’re not all that bad (versus flash/shockwave)?
I’m curious as to why the jeuxlinix site won’t host applets though…

They said that they refuse games inside web browsers (applets, servlets, Flash, …) but Dofus appears in their list. Therefore, I wrote an article about one of your games, Bloodridge. You know I like this game a lot. If they don’t respect their own rules, I won’t respect them and I will submit some articles about applets.

Yes you will see Xenplat on jeuxlinux.fr but please tell me exactly how you want me to introduce your game (I will translate it into French). It would be better if Xenplat had some sound effects, wouldn’t it?

I think that’s kinda the point… if anyone knows it’s Java, that’s “fail”.

Cas

Right, servlets… get your facts straight.

They said that Dofus is their only exception :frowning: They get me out of my nerves >:(

It would be fine if the authors of DzzD, Tesseract and Incredibuilder came to help me as they are francophone, please :’(

That’s their choice… and yours.

I hear you, but I think applets are still young in development terms - there’s only so much that flash can do!

Actually, Flash can do so much. So painlessly. There is a reason it won.

Cas

That is not the problem. They refuse the applets and they justify this choice by saying they want only quality games, that is the problem as a quality game can be an applet.

The only way to convince them, is to show them a quality game applet. Not protesting, whining, or anything else.
