Linux gaming websites that refuse Java games: please protest!!!

That is what I try to do but this is the same problem than for the “Bottin des jeux Linux”:
http://www.surlestracesdupingouin.tuxfamily.org/LesJeuxSousLinux.html

Actually, they are even more exigent with Java games. The author of this “Bottin” (huge list of games for Linux) wrote that when he launches a Java game, he loses the control of his machine and he cannot stop the process lol.

this WIP seems excellent ! (the idea as usual from markus is excellent too), but… IMO user experience is not (yet) that good

maybe nightsquad 2, as far as I remember it is applet , no ?

Didn’t that only worked on windows?

Yes, you’re right

Ok I will show them Minecraft too.

what!!! they refuse window only game on a linux website !! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d be very honored. =D

But a small notice/warning:
Minecraft has pretty serious problems running right on Opera at the moment, I’m doing something wrong…

Does it work fine with Firefox 2 & 3, Iceweasel, Chrome and Konqueror?

It works for me but it is extremely slow (7 FPS), it is a bit faster when pressing f several times.

I can speak French. What do you want me to do, exactly?

Nothing seems to work properly in Opera, java-wise. Opera’s fault, I fear.

Cas

I would protest about the linux sites if i used linux but i can imagine how p****d off you might feel.

I used to blame opera for not working how i wanted it to, untill i found out the reason why opera was still running in the background was because one of my threads was still running one line of code fixed it and it also fixed the game not logging you out when you navigated to a new site.
System.exit(0); inside a catch statement.

opera’s java plugin is the worst plugin in the world, I’d even consider it worse than the original java plugin (before the new stuff in Java 1.6.0_10+). Not sure why opera insist on writing their own java plugin when sun provide a perfectly decent implementation (now).

The opera developers have been asked many times to fix or change their java plugin, the usual response is ‘we don’t care about java’, not only is their plugin broken in many ways but it also blocks the use of the normal java plugin which would probably work if opera just removed their version.

Even with the latest opera 10 snapshots they are still using their crap java plugin which probably hasn’t been changed or modified for at least 10 years.

Even shock IE6 has better support for java than opera.

I don’t find any way of showing them that their behavior is a kind of discrimination. Can you go there and “enfoncer le clou” as we say in French? If I’m alone to protest, it is not very efficient:

DJL is a sort of tiny equivalent of Steam under Linux, its author is implicated in this forum. Convincing the moderators would have 3 benefits in the middle term:

  • allow more Java games to appear in their list of Linux games (not only 3)
  • encourage the author of DJL to make what he said some months ago: allowing the addition of Java games in his repository
  • encourage the author of the “Bottin des jeux Linux” to add more Java games (princec, you should have a look at what he said about one of your games, he seems not to know Java Webstart)
    Thanks

Hi!

I received an email of the author of the “Bottin des jeux Linux”, he will remove all offending messages against Java and he found the FGF players’ portal quite useful  My perseverance is going to pay ;D Java rocks.

damn you are really a fanatic, Sun should pay you !

We need some fanatics  Sun should pay you too as your engine tries to drive possible to have a good experience with applets. Thank you.

Hi!

“Infinite Mario” created by Markus Persson and TUER are 2 candidates to enter the Linux “Bottin”. It is not my choice, I will try to push other games.

That’s two pretty bad choices.

Infinite Mario Brothers is riddled with copyright infringement.
TUER is just a bad game.

I’m not going to comment this as I’m tired and I don’t want to waste my energy and my time, I prefer spending them in something constructive to avoid such remarks in a far future.

What do you mean exactly? I would have preferred “Legend of the Chambered” or “Minecraft” to be added.

seconded…

I mean it contains copyrighted material that I didn’t produce nor have I gotten permission to use it, so distributing it is illegal.
