Large resolution performance boosting

How would I optimise performance on a large screen a small screen of 600 by 400 works fine but when attempting to go up to 720p or 1080p the fps drops significatly. is there anyway to do this or is hardware acceleration required?

Do the math.

You’ll always take a performance hit when scaling up to higher resolutions, it’s the developers job to minimize the impact on the FPS. It all depends on what graphics API you’re using and how you’re using it.

The implied question here is a software rendering. So do the math.

I like math. Here you go:

600*400 = 240 000
1280x720 = 921 600
1920x1080 = 2 073 600
2560x1440 = 3 686 400
3840x2160 (4k) = 8 294 400
5120x2880 = 14 745 600 (what I prefer to game at)

Now you know (or can find) some nanosecond numbers for what you’re seeing…complete the computation. It only an estimate but a pretty good one (don’t use FPS it’s a useless measurement).

To be honest, it’s 2560x1440 with 4x sparse grid supersampling. There aren’t any monitors that have that resolution. Even my 2560x1440 screen overclocked to 90Hz needs bandwidth beyond the specs of dual-linked DVI. 4K is emulated using two logical monitors, two DVI cables and AMD Eyefinity/Nvidia Surround.

I many ways the HD tv thing and DVI have put monitor resolutions back quite a bit, the DVI/HDMI in particular. Spent too much time on encryption that wasn’t needed in the first place. We are only just now getting back to resolutions comparable to CRT monitors i once had.

Of course it did weigh 60kg and cost as much as 10 computers do today… but meh, I want my 4k display now already. Dual Displays. Wait i have 2 video cards in this system. Quad 4k monitors for the win.
