Dear JGO community,
Almost a decade ago, while sitting on a conference call to discuss how Java technology could be improved for video game development, the consensus was that we needed a community. So, armed with a mute button for the concall, a domain provider and a $15 charge to my credit card, JavaGaming.org was born. The goal was to create a community that would become a focal point for the growth of Java in game development and provide an open, candid forum for discussion and discovery. Through the ups and downs what we have built, collectively, is the strongest community for game development in Java technology on the web. Bar none.
Take a look at JGO at various points over the years:
YUCK!
Well, to be fair, I was trying to do everything myself: writing, graphics, HTML, etc. while still doing my primary job. WAY too much for anyone to do on their own and, eventually, the site settled into what it needed to be. A forum for kick ass community members to come in and help each other to become better at their craft.
I think we were very successful at achieving this.
And now we are going to enter a new era for the community.
Riven has been working with me to migrate the JGO community to our own server, where we will have control over the improvements we need to make to keep the community growing. As well, I have been working to get the Javagaming.org URL back under my control so that we are free to do what we need to, to keep the community in tact. That transfer is in process.
In the meantime, Riven has stepped up and has put forth a tremendous amount of effort to host the new JGO location, stage the new forum, fix all the broken bits, and we are now ready to pull the switch and migrate to our new home! So, here is what you can expect.
-
By Friday of this week, we will put both this site and our new site into staging mode so that we can dump the database and move it. (We are hoping this takes no longer than an hour)
-
There will be a re-route in place that will move us to a temporary URL. We will let the community know what this will be by tomorrow.
-
We will be welcoming suggestions for new features and will now have the ability to implement themin a timely fashion!
-
All passwords/logins will remain the same. No need to re-register.
I want to thank the community for your participation for close to a decade! We have seen several successes come out of the members of our humble group and I look forward to the community helping the next great successes as well.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU to Riven. He is truly comitted to the community, cares about its growth, and has done a tremendous amount of work to help ensure we can continue to grow. CLAPCLAPCLAP
AND!!! THANKS CHARLIE! Charlie has been there to help keep JGO running through all of this craziness. Thanks again for all of your help!
More to come!
