Horde 8-Bit Waves Of Death! - [WIP UPDATED JUNE 26 2013]

If you don’t want to put it on your server, you should at least copy the target link from the MediaFire Download Button, so the user isn’t bloated with ads everywhere.

Also, www.horde.wessles.com is silly. ‘horde’ replaces ‘www’, that’s how sub-domains work.

The font is a bit hard to read :-\ Have you considered a different one?

You’re not even in high school, but you can afford your own webpage? O.o

My host does it for free out of generosity.

And yeah, you need to redo the layouting.

You want to avoid making the user scroll down, and MOTHER OF GOD those fonts are huge. Turn it down a little.

Personal connection?

What website engine (I don’t know if that is what they are called) are you using for your website?

Also, what Linux distro are you using?

Sorry for the pointless questions, I am just curious.

With 10 dollar i have unlimited everything (except mail) at hostgator.
(including domain)

Many people dont
Really, they got some bad reviews.

“unlimited bandwith and disk space” cough yeah, sure

@ Wesley :

With Distro he means Linux Flavor, for example, Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Archlinux

Web Engine, A.k.a Webserver is the application you use to serve your website to users. Like Apache, nginx, …

Btw i would not endorse sth i just happen to know for some small time

By web engine I actually meant using only HTML, using Ruby on Rails, Sinatra, Jekyll, or anything else. Speaking of that,

I don’t see the huge point in buying a fully-fledged domain if you only are going to use static HTML (which to me it sounds like that is what you are using). I think GitHub Pages with Jekyll would work nicely. I’ve found it to when using it the past few days. You should look into Ruby on Rails or Sinatra or something - they could make web development insanely easier for you.

Also, I understand your Linux distro is Ubuntu. You set up a true dual-boot? Back when I used Ubuntu I just used WUBI, then I grew to hate Unity, so I moved to Fedora. I assume you installed Eclipse with sudo apt-get install eclipse?

Using the terminal is as simple as writing the command and typing ‘y’ and pressing enter… Then it takes care of everything for you. I don’t see how that isn’t super easy. Using the terminal doesn’t even require tar. Besides, auto updates are nice.

Ah, yes, PHP would require more than GitHub Pages, so your website is worth your purchase. Still, because you have a domain already I highly suggest playing with Ruby on Rails or Sinatra sometime - you may find them to be very lovely.

Haha sure it is not really unlimited, but as long you keep on average use, you dont have any hard limits.

Bluehost has that beat by half and is pretty comparative service wise. I maintain a couple of business sites hosted there from time to time and haven’t ever had any problems with them.

They seem to have picked up a negative reputation for some reason, but I’ve had multiple domain names managed by them for well over 5 years and never had an issue with their service or support. Maybe those people aren’t huge Danica Patrick fans. :point: Haters going to hate. LOL

You need to fix your URL in your last post (you had a space at the beginning of the URL which translates to a %20 and you left the colon out of the http:// prefix). For quick reference http://horde.wessles.com.

The layout looks better and is a bit easier to read. My only suggestion would be to maybe consider swapping the link and plain text colors. As it stands now, that shade of red for the main font is somewhat hard on the eyes. Swapping the colors would make it a bit easier to read, and as a bonus, your links would pop a bit more. 8)

Got to love BBCode. Works like a charm now. ;D

As your site font i suggest using an standard font for readability.
Also try adding some (white) background behind your text.

You want to bring an message with your site, so make sure people can read this.
Try to get some hirarchy with your site (using a single layout for all of your pages).

The updates for exaple could look better like this (ignore the quote from… part)

Download (add a nice graphic (zombie) image

Older updates

My hands are itching to rebuild your page haha

@Jimmt

Indeed! Me and my father work where it’s hosted, so I guess that’s just a perk of being in the web-development department.

@Wessles

I need to find you a big book on GNU+Linux. One of the 4 essential freedoms of free software is the freedom to distribute modified copies of said software. In this case, that is a GNU+Linux distro/distribution. The one I got you started with was Ubuntu, and Unity is simply the desktop environment it now uses.

Also, instead of swapping the colours, You should find a way to outline the font with something different, and you could make the shade of red darker.
Good job on the new design!

Ofcource, did you see where they are linked to.
Those were just dummy-links to show.
Maybe ill try to fixup ur page if horde is much further.
Gotta work on my own wip project

The text hurts my eyes.

And is unreadable even if I put up with the pain.

You need a different font, and a more saturated colour.

Red is bright, but it’s (approximately) just 1/3 of white’s brightness. (different wavelengths give different amounts of brightness. green > red > blue). To get around this you mix two of the primary colours.

Also for that reason, when you saturate a colour, you can also get away with darkening it.
