Bloodridge

A month gone by and still no sign of the cash…

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the shadow…

What’s wrong? You got 2000 last month, didn’t you? Do you really need cash to go on developing Bloodridge?

I’ve had no cash at all yet! - I want to hire an artist to jazz it all up a bit.

Ok I see, you’re disappointed.

I detected 2 small bugs :

  • the first time you launch the game, if you click on the window, you can’t use the keyboard anymore to move the player
  • in the first solo mission (marked as “easy”), the arrows sent by the svarts go through the walls

The first bug comes from the way you use the listeners, the first versions of TUER had the same problem. I solved it by doing what was required to be sure that the same component keeps the focus from the start to the end and by listening the events only on this component. It is easier in my case as I’m in fullscreen mode.

The second bug seems to be more complicated but I have never seen your source code so I can’t see where the problem is. At first, an enemy should be able to see you even when you are hidden behind a wall. He may hear you if you’re noisy. After that, it might come from the way you handle the collisions. Good luck.

Thanks for the report!
The first problem will be solved when the development panel on the right is done properly (hopefully!).
I can’t replicate the second - can you be more specific?

The first svart in this level is able to shoot me through the wall. You can’t miss it.

worked great on my system.

i also found it a bit difficult to get interested in the game, but nonetheless is was sweet.

on firefox on windows xp with a x2 3800+

i got average of 15fps, but it felt like it was alot more, it looked very flickery tho, i would prefer to play at the smaller resolution rather than scaling it up i think.

pretty impressive little demo.
;D ;D ::slight_smile:

If you don’t have any objection, I will put a link to your game into some websites about Linux as it works fine under this family of operating system. Good luck. ;D

Thanks Gouessej! I have been neglecting it a bit - a bit of interest might help to reinspire me! Which linux sites are they?

I would like to add your game on www.happypenguin.org but it is required that the author adds his own game on many websites, it has been a problem on many french websites dealing with games.

Well, those linux sites have certainly boosted my site visits - Bloodridge has jumped to the top of the hits list in the last 10 days! It’s hammering my bandwidth though…

Fine! It would be fine if you add your game on happypenguin as there are a lot of people coming here and it would help to promote Java for gaming. ;D

I don’t know if you’re still working on bloodridge. Do you plan to release the source code one day?

Gouessej - if you want the source code it’s yours for the asking! It’s totally undocumented and sparsely commented so I don’t really want to make it publicly available, but for a fellow developer like yourself, no problem! PM me and I’ll send it to you.

Bloodridge is the ‘front end’ - I haven’t done anything to it for ages because I’m working on the AI & networking for the ‘rear end’ (as it were!).

Ok. I spoke to you about this because some people suggested that I reuse my engine to rewrite other games to improve the performance and to check if it is “general enough” to be used not only for a FPS. Currently my engine is absolutely unable to handle such complex maps that you have.

Fine. I wish you to succeed.

Why don’t you add your game on RandomThoughts? If you agree, I can add it for you or you can do it.

Due to excessive bandwidth issues, access to Bloodridge has been temporarily suspended.
If you would like to see the game please PM me to arrange it.

If anyone wants to host Bloodridge in the meantime (2MB approx) please let me know!

Gosh, that was quick! A few choice words and my ISP gives me 2.5GB/month!
Bloodridge is now back up!
