I guess this is more of an continuation of this thread:

AstroPrime is a game based around asteroids, which originally was going to be a battle game, but I’m pretty much decided to move it to being a MMO. It still v. v. alpha at the moment.

Elite in 2D, at least hopefully one day… :slight_smile:

Version 0.17a is on there, allows you to play about a bit. It will probably be while until the next update since it mostly means moving over to a MMO architecture.

I’m also going to try and sort this red textures thing out.

There’s not much of a game yet, so there isn’t a “normal” time for folks to be about…

Incidently, based on my logs, you’re still connecting to your local server… you need to use the “lookup” button to find the central test server (currently hosted on my home machine :o)

That’s what I meant. When I try that, it says “connecting to …”, but nothing happens. I just assumed it was down.

Cool, you can move the rocks around by shooting them. =D Although the one I pushed of the “top” of the world just vanished. =)

Got some more network troubles by the looks of it, players just lose communitcation with the server… but apparantly they’re still connected, some hole in my UDP layer I spose…

Oh, and the fall of the top of the world thing, if you fly after it you’ll find you get magically teleported to the otherside of the world…

But that’ll change if I go MMO…

Little progress update,

0.18a is up now, the central server probably won’t be working for a while but the network layer stuff has been sorted out in a big style.

As to development, after some thought I’ve moved away from a simple battle game in favour of the full MMO. The fighting doesn’t seem to be enough to make a complete game so I’m adding the whole exploration/trading side of things. As you can imagine this is relatively slow progress. Version 0.20a will contain all the basic elements (travelling from dock to dock, character creation) and should be along pretty soon.

I’d be interested on any feedback on the concept and whether to continue in this direction.

Maybe I’ll look at putting together a battle game as a subset of the MMO or summink…
