You know you’ve made it when you’re quoted in The Register.
Nice one Jeff!
'Tis a silly quote as well! Bass fishing indeed
Cas
Bass Fishing games have done well in the U.S. but nobody can ever make a online type one because, as Jeff says, the numbers still wouldn’t be high enough to pay for the server room set-up. In a hosted environment, it starts to become possible.
I would bet tht there are allot of people sitting in their offices in the U.S. right now that would play a causal networked bass fishing game! (Deer Hunter was huge in that market as well…)
It’s a very Zen-like game experience I hear
I remember the fishing part of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was a blast…
Agreed. I remember that minigame kept a group of friends and I entertained for an evening or two, competing to see who could land the biggest fish.
IIRC, my crowning moment was an 18lb behemoth that was longer than Link was tall. Perhaps it was the copious alcohol that added spice to the thrill of the aquatic chase…
Thanks guys and yeah, Shawn got the gist of the quote right. The point was that a 20 million machine room dollar outlay for a game that pulls 500 people a night just doesnt make sense. But when you can pay for hardware as you need it, and a hosting provider can aggregate all those games and spread the cost of the machine room amongst them, it does!
