You guys still here ?

I trust this an appropriate forum to post, but I just read about the considerable layoffs at Sun. I really hope this board stays around and the staff responsible for it are still employed. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the support! We are still going to be around and the games industry is still a focus for Sun.

I’m here today, thanks for asking.

Jeff

your coworkers at forums.sun.com don’t appear to have been as lucky?? :o

things have been going downhill there for the last couple of months, and now it’s gone altogether…

I was just reading through this, and it doesn’t sound the way I intended… lol oops.

What I mean to say is that now the actual forums are no longer coming up in my browser. There have been four or five days now where I have not been able to access forum.java.sun.com. Any ideas why this might be? I’m not having trouble with any other sites.

Sorry guys, it sounds like you already know more then me?

(For instance, what DOS attack?)

Denial Of Service. What we used to call a flood attack, some years ago, i think. Sending more data to a server than it can treat, so it does not respond to anyone.
there was a ‘big’ attack of this kind few days ago:

Thanks guys,. I know what a DOS attack is. (Remember, I used to work for TEN.) I hadn’t heard about one effecting Sun though which is why I asked.

Intrestign article. Its good to see that the dedstributed nature of the net works against man, if not against nature.

(I’ve seen some horrendous failures from my timj at TEN when we had things happen like one of the MAEs go offline.)

Oops, Sorry, Jeff. Not being a native english guy sometimes make me read things in other way than how they are. I just read “what’s DOS attack?”.
Really sorry. I felt weird answering this question, as i thought you would know (reason why i talked about flooding, as i thought you were just missing some new naming…)
Sorry again.

Get some sleep!

No problem pepe. Having spent a year in a country barely speaking the language (I worked for a year in Milano) I’m very forgiving of language problems.

This certainly seems odd, but I keep getting these outtages periodically on the sun forums…
