Yildiz-Online: My RTS space game

I hear that. One of the things that bugged me about Homeworld was how all ship formations would revert to the same XY plane, and how all Z axis movement was done with respect to that plane, such as how rotation would basically stop at the north and south poles.

Getting the ships aligned on a plane looked kind of cool, but it should have been a formation thing to align on any arbitrary plane – plus, imagine how bad-ass it would have looked to have a circular formation of fighters with each craft’s “up” radiating out.

Thx for the graphic, as i am programer, that’s really nice to hear.
Good catch for english, i am currently making it corrected, sure it does not make serious.
I consider change the font, as you say i is too close, same for 1(i spent 30min searching for an unexisting bug because i read my resources were 1000 instead of 11000)

for the Y axis(game is Y up), it was making lot of issues, like the base could not attack an entity under it, and the game play was less interesting, now with a XZ plane, it is really better.

Looks cool ;D It’s a genre of games that I enjoy, and this one seems nice enough. I’m looking forward how this will progress.

Overall I never got the hang of “full 3D” RTS games, the human mind (or at least my mostly human mind) is not so well suited to reasoning in 3D. You’d need a really good interface (revolutionary even) to make that work for me.

and you’ll enjoy that one

currently i m working on packaging resources properly for the incomming public alpha

shouldnt be long before the game can be tested

Updates:

-VFS resources loading is working.

-resources cleaning is progressing.

-Public alpha test is going to be launched soon.

Hi

In English, it means: “Culture is like jam, the less you have the more you spread”. I try not to use our mother tongue here to avoid making Riven laugh about me, even though some of our expressions are very difficult to translate into English.

I’m impatient to try the alpha version.

Offtopic:

:persecutioncomplex:

Please don’t take it personally. If I were to translate Dutch expressions to English it would be funny/odd/confusing for others too. If I wouldn’t know any better, I’d think it was a monkey sandwich. You don’t have butter on your head, do you? Or are you about to eat the cheese off my bread?

It’s ok Guys, let’s forget about jam and butter for now lol

back to the main topic

Yes… Where is the alpha version? I want to give it a try.

Updates:

-Server is deployed.

-Currently Writing a handbook to explain game mechanics and how to play.

-Then account creation app will be the last step before alpha.

Updates:

-The game has been made ready to accept 100 accounts(it is far too many for a first test week but it is currently the maximum number of bases allowed in a solar system).

-Public alpha will start today at 7pm GMT.

-For more info check my website: http://yildiz.bitbucket.org

-You can report bugs or give your suggestions on: http://yildizonline-alpha.xooit.com/index.php

PS: linux binaries will be available when windows release is considered stable. This way you will have a more stable version and you won’t face difficulties as the current windows users.

Last version deployed, new features:

-Press M to display tactic map(still need some corrections).

-Press mouse middle button to move camera.

-Press CTRL + number to save selectionned units, and press the number again to retrieve the selection.

Updates:

  • Asteroid capture is complete and added to the game.

  • The new Yildiz’s version is released.

  • The Alpha test is still available, do not hesitate to give it a try

  • Check the website for more details: http://yildiz.bitbucket.org

Updates:

  • New panel to display resources gathering info.

  • Arrow keys to move camera.

  • Coming up: a new ship!

Updates:

  • A new ship is available: the vulture, the mesh is not final and there will be a change on speed, range and damages.

  • Soon, it will be able to “jump” to distant location, using an amount of energy.

  • Download the game to check the new version which JUST has been deployed on: http://yildiz.bitbucket.org

*Your feedback is always welcomed

Instead of always putting EN/FR translations, just put a button to switch in between, it clears up a lot of clutter (talking about the website).

Jimmit: That’s already in my “to do list” I just need time to do that :frowning:
Many thanks for reminding me though!!

Updates:

Working on a powerful AI system; goal driven. This will give a better behavior to the units.

Updates:

-The latest version is deployed with pretty much improvements.

-Check it on : http://yildiz.bitbucket.org

Updates:

  • An important part of the software has been rewritten:

*the destruction of units, the code is now way better and less error prone, it was necessary to hunt some bugs really hard to identify.

  • Now the focus is on new features and visual improvements; 3 major bugs are left(unit not destroyed when HP = 0, unit not responding to a move order in some case when attacking and the loss of mouse/keyboard when using the unit list window). They shouldnt be too hard to fix, but the exact cause still needs to be identified through more testing.

  • Launcher side: The news will now be displayed in the same language as the one chosen for the game(English and French are currently available)
