yay Lucas Arts classics in xp/2000!

this was new to me, but it’s probably old news for everyone else.

i found something called Quick & Easy over at http://quick.mixnmojo.com/ and it lets you play all your old favourites in for instance XP and 2000.

i downloaded the stuff and dug up my old dusty Sam & Max CD and played it through last week. after that i tried monkey island 2, which of course had even more dust on it. No speech here, but damn it’s funny! I had a good laugh this weekend and it sure did bring back some good memories!

monkey island is the best adventure game there is if you ask me. they don’t make games like these anymore :frowning:

i’m not involved in the development and it’s not java related in any way, i just thought most of you guys probably played some of the Lucas Arts classics (since all of you are 20+?).

Hurray for monkey island! Anyone ever played Loom ? It owned too although it isn´t Lucas Arts.

Btw Tie Fighter rocked as well

“ScummVM is an implementation of LucasArts S.C.U.M.M. (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) interpreter, used in games such as Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, Day Of The Tentacle, Sam and Max, and many more. Some things are still missing, and some games cannot be completeted yet. There are quite a few known bugs. Regardless of the bugs it is still possible to play some games all the way through to the end. Still other games do not load at all. Keep your eye on our Compatability page to see which games function with the current build. Comments and suggestions can be left in our forum.”

u can play tons of L.A. games with that thingy (even under linux, mac, dreamcast(!), etc ;))

yeah, Q&E is just a launcher as it need several other things to be downloaded, like ScummVM for instance. it works really great.

Loom is a LA game btw.

Q&E is just a launcher

hmm… there is no need for a launcher since scummvm 0.3.0.

(0.3.0b is the latest)

anyway, finished Monkey Island 2 today. sooo sweet.

i’ll go hunting for cheap games today  hopefully old stuff like monkey island 1 is available for like £6

LA is selling a collection… maniac mansion… monkey1, 2 etc. try to find it

a found a lucas arts adventure collection thingy and it cost £35. a tad too expensive if you ask me. it only had five old games in it too

Those are all great retros!

I think java would be an appropriate language for rewriting games of that genre.

By the way, does anyone know if a game: “Pool of radiance” by SSI is available.

besides monkey island, that was a favourite of myne
Larry

I still play the original XCOM game, although I’ve lost the discs ages ago. It was from the good 'ol days when every part of the game was installed under it’s own directory (rather than bits being thrown under various Windoze directories) and I came across a Zip backup a couple years ago which included it. It’s been on my drive since and it’s still one of my favorite time-wasters.

I was about to suggest having a search of some abandonwares sites… but then i remember LucasArts are stingy tight arsed ****** publishers who have never given permission to distribute their old classics >:(

but if your interested I found a site with them all on anyway ;D
