YABB broken?

I can’t go past the first page of the “Alien Flux Alpha Test 7” topic. I’ve had no problems with any other topics, but if I click the following link (which is the number 2 for page 2 of the topic) I just get a tiny blue flower, very similar to the ICQ flower.

…this is aside from the other, merely immensely irritating, “features” of YABB, like using font-sizes of “1” and “2”; obviously someone either hasn’t read the HTML specs (and doesn’t realise that 1 and 2 are so small they are not meant to be used for readable text), or they’ve got something against people with high-resolution monitors (try viewing a font size 1 webpage on a 15" laptop running at 1400x1050. I can only say thank god not all web designers are so dumb!)

Works for me. Are there any other links you’ve noticed that don’t work?

I agree about the criminal use of font sizes though…

Works for me too in MSIE6 - it’s only happening in Mozilla (1.3 stable) but it IS happening every time. :frowning:

Also, fonts are not so bad under windows - I guess that problem’s a combination of MSIE probably not rendering fonts quite how it’s supposed to, and/or the fact that the linux fonts are less readable at tiny point sizes? But I’m only guessing.

15" laptop at 1400x1050? Well, blahblahblahh, I would have to say that you are probably in the minority as far as screen size vs resolution goes (how the heck do you make out ANYTHING) at that resolution)?

I will look at the script when I get the time to see about adjusting the font size for code blocks.

Don’t make the text bigger for code and quote blocks, just make it a relative rather than absolute size. The same settings as the normal body text would be great. Leave it to the browser to decide how big the fonts should be.

I run my 15" laptop screen at 1024x768, and if I’m having a stressful day I’ll have to scale the fonts up a notch or two to avoid eye-strain. And I’ve got perfectly normal eye sight!

However, I rather agree that 1400x1050 is asking for trouble… :stuck_out_tongue: ;D

The problem could be with TrueType fonts, especially on Linux/Mozilla. You can download the TrueType fonts, but I can’t remember where. But that should help a lot.
Also, with Mozilla you can use Ctrl-plus and Ctrl-minus to adjust font sizes – I think it even works on absolute fonts.

I have a 1400x1050 15" laptop screen as well - the standard Dell Inspiron, which is pretty popular. So probably a lot more people may be having this problem than are posting about it (remember only 10-20% of forum users actually post at all!!)

Yeah - The first thing I type on every post is “Ctrl+, Ctrl+” :).

re: 1400 resolution, I rarely go above 1024x768 on a 17" CRT, (1154 is about right for me on a 17" CRT) - HOWEVER, the Dell LCD’s are so sharp that 1400 is clearer and easier to use than the aforementioned 17" CRT - and you get an extra load of desktop space for free.

…but as they’re LCD’s, you effectively can’t change the resolution anyway, not without creating artificial blur in everything :(.

SG: Thanks for trying to fix this.

PS: I’ve now had the original problem (page wouldn’t load) on another website, so it appears to be a mozilla bug; but at least I’ve got a different bug (font sizes) fixed in the process! :))

SG, how about you fix the white on white text on the most recent topics page while you’re at it?
