What’s the difference between :
- An experimental release
- A community release
- An official release
And why aren’t there releases sometimes ? Now the better with Xith is to CVS-checkout and build yourself.

Hi,
An experimental release… either one unofficially posted somewhere or one built from CVS.
Community release - a kind of milestone builds maintained by our Release Man William Dennis (thanks him very very much)
Official release - we had no official releases - sorry.
Currently, yes - CVS version is most up-to-date.

But actually we have some scripts that can provide very quickly releases, so if there’s not often changes it’d be cool to make a release.
Anyway, I’ll look deeper into Xith3D and come back with a plan, (I discussed that previously but should be more precise).
Yuri’s description is spot on.
Experimental builds are sometimes also used as part of the patch review process for major changes to the core which require acceptance by the community at large before they are added officially.
The release process is quite automated now (‘ant cbuild’). If anyone thinks there’s enough new stuff (and it’s stable enough) to warrent a new build, drop me an email requesting one and I will be more than happy to ablige.
People who need the bleeding edge features/fixes should use CVS, yes (of course this does have some risk…).
Cheers,
Will.
