Xith3D Project Page enhancements

Hello,

I am planning to take some steps on improving Xith3D presence at java.net and to improve the project page in order to attract more developers to use Xith3D and contribute to it and its companion xith-tk project.

If anobody have suggestions/opinions on that, please post them here so community can discuss and decide of what the best steps to do.

Some cross linking would definitely help I think. It would be good at least if the xith3d project linked to xith.org as a source of documentation and xith-tk as a source for third party tools. Maybe linking directly to the JWS demo pages would be good for attracting new developers as they can easily try out the Xith3D features.

Will.

  • Some news would be good i think : just to say where the project goes, what new feature has just been implemented and so on, it’s a good way to make the project ‘alive’ which is a very important thing for everybody :).
  • The list of all the features of Xith3D (i’ve only seen it in the forum and i’m not sure it’s up to date, i think it’s one of the first think a newbie would want to know, for me it’s the case  )
  • The list of current projects using Xith3D with links to them (i know it’s already on the site but it’s not very complete).

For the rest, i think the site is already very good, one of the best thing that makes me start trying programing with Xith3D was the ‘docs’ section with the very good getting started guide. A guide even more complete would be a fantastic thing for all newbies but i know it’s lots of work for people who already know Xith3D.

If you link to the JGF page for Xith, that automatically lists (with thumbnails) all the games using Xith that we’re aware of. This might be easier than maintaining your own list.

NB: we’d include Magicosm on the JGF page if only there was a contact address for the magicosm developers where we could email them! I can never find a contact address anywhere on their site :frowning: so if anyone reading this knows where to contact them, please give them a friendly nudge and ask them to send us their details.

A list of developers - This gives a developer some ‘fame’, even if not much  It’s good to see that you are “part” of something.

A list of features that are needed to be created by developers - This may perk interest of a developer to produce a piece of code.

An updated list of current features. - This would help to ensure that noone does something that is already done.

This has an extra benefit - it’s very useful to people trying to decide whether or not to use the technology; a list of what is wished for but-not-yet-done is almost more helpful than a list of what already works…

maybe also a list of things we would like people to help us with?

Any news ? As I can see, the “Credits” page has made its apparition since this subject, but we haven’t a so wonderful visibility yet.
Why are all the guys who were talking on this subject gone ? >:(
