I was able to run Whoola Cyberspace, a Xith-based application, under Java 6 beta today without any problems.

cool…
In general Java seems to be moving forward while we remain at 1.4. Does anyone have a feel for if / when to migrate up to a newer release??
Are there any reasons why Xith should not migrate to Java 5 at this time?
Hi,

Aren’t we migrated already if it runs with Java 5 and 6?
OK, in trhe other words, which Java 5 language features you would use in Xith3D core or what do you mean by migration?
Most of changes in Java 5 comparing to 1.4 related to new language constructs (which are mostly convenience utilitres for the programmer, and extra code introduced by compiler), and of course new APIs and subsystems.
Currently I don’t see big reasons why we should throw 1.4 away… but maybe I am also wrong.

Especially when mac os still doesn’t ship a 1.5 vm as standard…

Java 5 has been available on the Mac for a long time now, and it WILL be the default Java on Mac very soon.
