Will there ever be LWJGL/OpenGL on mobiles/PDA?

Will a Java/OpenGL based computer game ever be available on mobiles/pda’s?
i have just written a game using lwjgl and opengl and was wondering if a port would ever be possible?
please feel free to discuss

thanks

It is possible, however probably not in its current incarnation. It would have to have an altered API, basically due to the lack of NIO buffers. And it would be cut down feature wise.

However, since no one of us have access to OpenGL ES devices, the entire topic is quite mute
And we ought to get 1.0 out the doors before thinking about a small device version.

He means moot
We are crippled by the lack of NIO on ES devices but as ES devices are becoming powerful enough to actually seriously think about using J2SE we might not have too long to worry about that. The latest generation of PDAs with OpenGL ES in them might well be up to the task.

Cas

can someone plz explain to me what an nio is plz, sorry but i am new to all this graphics stuff.

are you saying that opengl es is improving so that it may be possible in the future or that it may just be possible with opengl es and the latest pda’s?

thanks

NIO = New IO - basically ByteBuffers

OpenGL ES is a subset of OpenGL, so it’s basically limited to what you can do.

What Cas is saying though, is that since you typically require a high-end device to do OpenGL ES, it might actually have a full VM (J2SE 1.5) - and thus lwjgl can be fully supported.
This is ofcourse just dreaming of the future - and it might take several years to get there

New JavaWirelessToolkin 2.0 has a mobile OpenGL EL api supported in an emulator engine. So its possible to start experimenting it without a device.

I tested one demo app, I have Nokia 6630 whish has midp2+OGLEL. It run fine in an emulator and my cell phone.
