Whatever happened to Java Gamming front page?

Hi,

If we look at the Java gaming front page, http://community.java.net/games/, we would consider that Sun
has lost it’s interest in Java for gaming.

The site looks dead by comparisation with other sections like Java Desktop. The java.com site has
more updates about the gaming universe that the supposed official one.

If it wasn’t for the forums I wouldn’t have any idea of what is going on.

Yes, I think this is really a sad thing. Not even the open sourcing of darkstar has made it to this page… It would probably be better to just shut down the page, as it is now. Somebody thinking about start coding games in java will see this and come to the conclusion that java gaming is stone dead and move on to something else… It would naturally be a lot better if this page was updated weekly or so. I am sure there are enough stuff happening for that. Guess that there isn’t enough staff for it… Really a shame.

I agree it’s sad. We have our best intentions of maintaining the page, but we have a ton of other things that seem to get in the way. So here it is:

Who in this community would like to take over the page and become the community leader? I would be happy to transfer the maintenance of the front page to a member of the community and have them run the site. e-mail me at chris dot melissinos at sun dot com if you are interested.

I’m a bit puzzled, what gap is this website suppose to fill?

It’s supposed to be a portal for all major happenings in the Java game dev scene. This would include covering community events like the 4K competition, perhaps spotlighting some finished games released around here, conducting the occasional interview with a gamedev and publishing an occasional technical article would be nice.

so the intended audience are developers, aggregates information about what’s going on spotlights on interesting important items concerning game development with java. not intended as a showcase for games but technologies per se,
