What is your favorite discontinued project of Java game?

Hi!

I spend some time in testing lots of Java games and I’m sometimes very sad when I discover an excellent game whose authors decided to give up :’( I would like to know what is your favorite discontinued project of Java game.

Mine is Megacorps Online:

I like FPS and this project was really promising, it had been showcased in the GDC 2005, it was a proof of the feasibility of a FPS using modern technologies and written in Java, it was impressive at this time (and still now).

I have another questions for you, what are the main reasons that force the authors to stop the development of their gaming projects? Lack of money? Lack of time? Do you get bored? Do you realize you wanted to do something too difficult for you?

What can be done to avoid such projects to become “obsolete pieces of code”? Release the source code? Create an organization that would “recycle” or go on maintaining such projects if some players are still interested in these?

How much time do you spend in developing a complete game?

Lack of money is what kills all of our grand ideas.

Cas

why did you jsut change fps? You were making one before.

then you decide to make another one?

I havent been coding a long enough time to have “old projects”

He didn’t say it was his game, he said its his ‘favorite discontinued project’.

Lol zammbi is right, it isn’t my FPS. Go on coding and you will have some old projects

So you have no lack of money, don’t you?

All my own projects are my favorite discontinued ones

I just finished a project and killed another. The game I killed was killed because the artist all of the sudden started working on the other game we had been talking about instead of that one. Of course, he’s actually doing art for an old game I made a few years ago. We’re going to remake that game so that it’s more playable and much more fun.

But I started working on a platformer that he alledgedly has a bunch of art for (though he hasn’t sent any of it to me). I’m essentially scrapping most of that code, though I’m going to use some library code I had written for the platformer in the other game we’re actually going to make.

That doesn’t make any sense at all, but I would rather work on an RPG than a platformer anyways.

Well I don’t have any discontinued games, but I do have a online 3d game on hold till I find time. Time for me is the biggest factor. Otherwise I would be building a lot of things

Ok but is that clear that my question doesn’t not concern only your own games? I have taken one day of holiday to work on TUER, I hope it will be a bit useful

Yes its clear, I’m just saying about my own game as I wouldn’t have a clue why another programmer would stop there development.
