I caught a cold last night :-[
just curious about what will happen in your country. I’m from China and unfortunately have to follow Option #2.
Here (the UK) it varies a great deal. Mostly it comes down to what the developer wants to do - if you feel bad enough you go home, if not you stay at work.

Left to the employee. If he decides to goto work, depending on how bad it is the manager can sugjest that it’s better to stay home even if he does come in.
If your self-employed / got your own company and you got to eat…
‘a cold’ is a bit relative as it is more used as a umbrella for feeling bad due to desease X. Does this mean your just sneezing(when I sneeze ppl down the hall yell ‘gezondheid’) at which point I goto work. If it’s more towards bronchitis stay at home. Or take the middle way and work at home.
As far as monney/crunch-time goes. Ppl aren’t as efficient when they have a cold and you can spread it. Factors like if you have your own office or it’s already spread…
anyways,
Just buy a bag of those vitamine-C candy there good. 8)
(edit: Holland, the Netherlands Pays-Bas … or however you want to call this tiny bit of eath)
Happen in my country? Nothing would happen, I would take day off, or two, or three, and show up when I’m ok again. I can imagine this isn’t as flexible in China :
Can’t imagine?! Heh…where are u from btw?
Sure, but they don’t help you fight a cold.

A cold! FFS get off your arse and go to work. If you have the flu or some other virus or are feverish then no, because you will spread it to all the other workers. But if you’re just sneezing and coughing for crying out loud it’s no big deal.
I go to bed and take my laptop with me. Rest AND working

I have the best solution. I don’t catch a cold
No I’m not being funny, I’m never ill. Guess my room isn’t that clean, which made me develop a good immune system
But couldn’t that also mean that your body is just not reacting to a potentially life threatening virus
no, then i’d be dead. as far as i know, any virus is fatal if your body doesn’t react to it. even if not, i’d surely notice something was wrong
You can work concentrated when someone sneez every 5 minutes or less? I doubt that.
For me, here in germany, it depends on the strength of the cold. Just a cold where i sneeze sometime with a bit headache might not a reason to stay home, only if you have a headache like from a caraccident and have to sneeze all the time then i take the yellow paper from the doc.
Last time I had a cough I turned up ready to work and they told me to go home before I made everyone else sick.
I had a pretty bad cough but other than that I felt fine.
I’m a true soldier, I caught a viral infection on my way back to England from Norway and despite randomly falling asleep at the desk and feeling like crap I came into lectures and did my coursework
I would go back to work against my BOSSes will. I will never stop coding not even if i had cancer, unless i was already pushing up the daisies.
Hi, Im from Germany
Its rather usual here that people are afraid of staying away from work too long, they think they could get fired. So it happens often that the people come to work with illness. Sometimes the boss hast to order them to stay home, so that they can recover and cannot spread the illness in the office. Well, thats not for proggers especially. Considering proggers, they usually have a tight deadline and doing overtime is usual. Loosing whole days to sickness can put quite a pressure on the progger or the others in the team. So here too the usual practice is to work as long as it is possible.
