What I did today

I’ll just show myself out now.

After 400 years of death robots roaming around and not giving a f*ck, I doubt those flood defences will hold. =P

With the final touch of an anti-aliasing curve shader, I got my engine to render vector art. Some SVG icons intended for the editor (pardon the perspective effects etc.; I wanted to pretend I’m scaleform for a little while):

I spent a few hours trying to figure out why Gradle in Eclipse was being odd and utterly destroying my projects by making them unable to do anything Gradle-related. Turns out the Buildship plugin tends to clash with an already existing (and better) plugin by overwriting properties and the .project file to suit its own liking, so all I need to do is uninstall it, right?

Uninstall doesn’t work in the Install New Software window, and for some odd reason there was no plugins nor features folder in my eclipse installation.

Three reinstalls later: I find out that the installer uses pools to avoid downloading the same program over and over again, essentially copying my problem. Turned that off, my folders are back. I delete Buildship, all is well now except for the fact that running the Refresh All on gradle causes the project to fail to compile [the script]. Some more googling later turns up that the old syntax for Gradle 2.4 for multiple source directories doesn’t work, and 2.9 requires a new syntax. Fixed that, everything is finally fine.

That took way too long.

Hi lads!

Was having one of those weird issues when your code works, but not the way you intended it to, and you just can’t figure out what is wrong with it, and you know it must be a damn obvious thing… Was about to finally ask some advice here after having struggled for a good two hours. Pasted part of my code in the message editor… and found my mistake. :persecutioncomplex:

I think I should really stop coding with the basic notepad if I can see mistakes easier in the JGO message editor than in it.

There is no reason not to use helpful tools. Now go and download IntelliJ!

Finished loading/saving mechanism with the aid of json-simple. Jackson was a mess to deal with so I switched over. So glad I did.

Also, to aid in my JSON-based data handling, the discovery of CastleDB has been immensely useful. Give it a try if you enjoy cleanly represented data.

Updated my LWJGL3 tutorial to version 3.0.0b

Also made some PR (with some colleagues) for the virtual reality lab at the open day of my university.
The children sure want an Oculus Rift or a Samsung Gear VR for chrismas now :persecutioncomplex:

EDIT: Started page 111 of this thread

Added bump mapping into my software rendered engine  I LOVE the results!

The cobble stone on the ground BEFORE bump mapping:

And after:

Will put a demo out later so keep your eyes peeled if you are interested! :stuck_out_tongue:

Was on a long bus ride, so decided to try to program some boids, in Python. Hate the language, but it was easy to get up and running at least.

Code can be viewed here: https://github.com/CMatri/Python-Stuff

Finally got around to making an auto-updater and launcher for my game!

http://www.questica.net/Images/DevLogs/updater.png

It will check the login credentials against my website when downloading and updating the game, but one it’s downloaded you can play just fine without logging in or being connected to the internet  If there is an update it will ask if you want it, then automatically download and run the latest version.

I also didn’t want this to just be a jar file that users ran, so I wrapped it in an exe with Launch4j. Now all you will have to do is download the exe from my website and the rest will handle itself ;D

kinda finished a raycaster that i had been working on for the past couple of days, might turn it into another maze type game - I really like mazes

@SirSoltex Looks a lot like Notch’s Prelude of the Chambered. He wrote a raycaster in just a couple of hours! He’s really amazing at what he does.

Today I went to the library, borrowed the Red Book (official OpenGL guide) and found out that it doesn’t really help much. I’ve learnt enough OpenGL to create a spinning model with per-pixel lighting. It’s time to start working on an idea for an open-world voxel-based 3D game I came up with not so long ago

Last night I was driving my tank (Wrangler) back home, just minding my own business jamming out to some bass-y tunes. A deer runs out into the road and just kind of glares at me, so I slow down and flash my brights at the beast and hope he doesn’t decide to ram his head into my grill. I’m in luck! He trots off across the road, safely crossing without any issues. I speed up a little, wanting to get away before any other deer appear and “pimp my ride” but the deer that just crossed decides to go kamikaze and sprints right into the side of my baby. At this point I’m just swearing and cursing my luck because this is the same car that I used to smash the back of another car a couple weeks ago, and now I’m thinking the worst has happened and the deer has smashed things up.

Luckily for me only my fender flare broke, so now I have to hunt around for a replacement in the right color. When the lease is up on this beautiful beast I am definitely buying it. We’ve been through too much now to just let her go!

Also, the deer is alright I think. I went ran down the road a little to try to find him but I think he was long gone.

Oh, and one of the buildings in my apartment complex caught fire this morning. Some cats died :frowning: Four apartments were trashed and there’s now a giant hole in the front of the building.

I need a break from life, someone is trying to kill me.

Wow :-\ that’s pretty crazy.

Opiop, you shouldn’t have sped up. You spooked and confused the animal. Just go slowly till you’re past it. If the rest of the family was about to follow it over the road, accelerating was the wrong thing to do anyway.

Definitely, I do agree I should not have sped up. This was my first time dealing with deer on the road though, so I didn’t really know what to do. In hindsight I should have waited longer before I started driving again, and I should have passed him slowly.

Oh well!

Edit: I just finished a ~2 day debug session trying to figure out why something was broken with a project at work. I figured it out, no one else could figure out why it was broken and they had no idea how to fix it. I’m invincible right now, I almost started laughing when I finally fixed the problem.

Of course, customary to the programmer life, I will probably encounter another soul-crushing bug within the next 24 hours that will make me want to go all “scorched earth” on this company. But hey, that’s why we are paid the big bucks, yeah? Trading money for your sanity, definitely worth it.

I found this today. It’s a great explanation of the diamond-square algorithm to generate random terrain. It’s really awesome, compared to all the other diamond-square explanations out there!

Receive account to try “SC2 legacy of void”
Downloading it 8 hrs ^^
Delete after 30 min XD (or how long its take for 1 mission of protos)

no comments… (very big opinion)
(i finish WoL and HotS addons in past)
simply - nothing new:
it’s same as it was in “sc 1” - 17 years ago -
and many things even worse (except visuals and small user friendly interface optimization)

up: And that Storyline omg…
3 Race fighting against global evil
where I’ve seen it
War 3 – but in war 3 you can play for this fourth race
Global evil that appeared out of nowhere – no detail story about that.
And for some unknown reasons want destroy everything
up:2
and game mechanics it’s don’t have any logic )

marine can shooting with rifle in to Aircraft
And Aircraft viking can’t shooting back from Air XD
(it’s not balance thing - it’s lame “we don’t want add more units”)

p.s For story I can watch all cinematic on youtube + missions speedruns,
but I don’t want play in this

That seems sketch, but cool if its legit. $500 worth of Taco Bell? That would probably last me the rest of my life considering I only get their $1 soft tacos.
