What do you think of the java-gaming.org projects?

I want to know if it makes sense to add my project to the java-gaming.org projects listing. It seems to me that the structure is too messy for people to take time and browse often.

Question is phrased in a bit wrong way. Javagaming.org project browsing IS extremly messy and I’m not even considering looking there for some random project. BUT, if you want to create a project, it provides few quite nice tools for management. You just cannot rely on it to advertise your project - you need to find users/developers in other way (like this forum).

In the interest of improving the usability of the javagaming projects section, what would you suggest to make it less messy?

You could start by making the listing easier with “topis” like “games/apps/etc”

I voted for “seldom check” not really because the site is messy but because you don’t get any information.

Here’s my usage experience:

If I click on “Projects” I see a list of subprojects and click on “games-forge” to check out existing games as this category sounds like the most interesting to me. Now I get another list and click on “stratagem - Turn-based Strategy Game” which again sounds interesting but frankly doesn’t tell anything about the project. Now, I’m lost. I get a 4-line project description but no easy accessable home page, no screenshots, no status report, nothing. It looks like there’s no source code, the CVS repository seems to be empty (or you need to login what I do not want just to browse projects).

As a friendly reminder to whoever has written the project summary: “game based on an old DOS game” is no description that explains the game. And why isn’t the project called after the game name which seems to be “Black Knights”?

Another try: “caves” - again no useful description. At least, there seems to be some source code in CVS. Still, no design documents, no vision statement, nothing that can let me stay on this page for more than 30sec - I’m sorry to say so.

Sidenote: the OGL games demo page looks better - at least there’re some screen shots but unfortunately all but one or two demoes are for nvidia - a graphics card I do not own. And so I’ll browse to some other hopefully more interesting page of the world wide web…

same here man,

It sounds like there are two things that need to be done here:

  • start emailing the project owners to improve their home page

  • start the process for removing dead projects

I’ll start getting things going for the above, but is there anything else people would like to improve our area?
