What do you prefer in game development?

Hello

I was wondering what aspect of game development everyone prefer around here. Is it :

  • Designing nice gameplay
  • Making nice graphics (artist)
  • Building tool to help the development of a game
  • Working with physics
  • Project management
  • Just coding as many line as possible
  • Doing the publicity (showing off your game with a nice presentation)
  • The technical challenge
  • Writing superb story for a game (like RPG)
  • Making demo VS complete game
  • Working alone VS in group
  • other

The parts I prefer myself are designing the gameplay and working with physics because it has a huge impact on the gameplay :). The reason why I like the gameplay so much is because I think it’s the core of any games, a game with a nice gameplay will keep me playing.

Some things I would like to try in the future would be to make tools that help the development (like a map editor) and maybe project management.

I like playing around with new ideas I get.
I also like showing something I’ve created that I’ve worked long and hard on to get perfect.

I basically like to create and design games, when it comes to programming i struggle, especially with physics and when it gets really complicated.

So im more creative

My likes:

  • Designing nice gameplay
  • Making nice graphics (artist)
  • Project management
  • Writing superb story for a game (like RPG)

I prefer the technical challenge. I like to implement new things I’ve not done before.

I like implementing algorithms that have no open source implementations yet, sharing my knowledge, showing that Java can kick your ass

Yesterday I tested my game on an “old” PC (VIA chipset under OpenGL 1.2, Sempron 2300+), I got about 37 FPS whereas it was completely unplayable in 2006 on the same machine (less than 1 FPS). I find this kind of challenge quite interesting and exciting.

I like the creativity. Creating a game/idea out of nothing, same when I write music too. Working on big game projects or other peoples does absolutely nothing for me!

I like the performance aspect (surprise surprise).

When you’re number crunching, there’s always a faster way.

unless it is your idea

Absolutely. To me delivering the story is the most important thing to do. Ofcourse if the game/gameplay isn’t fun no one will keep playing and thus the story can’t be delivered.

So I love FF and MGS series most for their in-depth focus on story.
