Webstart deployment tutorial bug?

Has anyone else run the little app. linked to on Sun’s web start deployment tutorial? (link, click the ‘Launch’ button)

It launches & works fine for me, but when I come to close it, clicking the close button causes my machine to completely lock up for ~8 seconds (even the mouse stops responding!)
Is this just a quirk of my machine (WinXP, Java 1.6.0_15-b03) or is it a general issue with this particular application?

:edit:

hmm, the Notepad demo does the same… is this a known webstart bug?!

:edit:

erf, every webstart app. that has the stupid yellow warning triangle displays the same behaviour.
When closing the applications window, the entire operating system hangs for ~8 seconds!?!

Please say i’m the only one experiencing this =|

Works for me, on OS X…

Also on OS X, it seems that the “warning triangle” doesn’t dangle outside of the app window. Instead it sits inside the application’s title bar, over to the right. It also isn’t yellow, but gray/white, and blends well with the UI. Much nicer than what I’ve seen on XP or Vista.

Works cleanly here (for webstart anyway) on W2K Java 1.6.0_15-b03.
Must be just you!

Works here on vista and firefox… I wonder what the story is with your computer? Maybe try uninstall/reinstall?

Hmm, interesting…

Clicking the maximize and minimize buttons also cause the 8 second freeze.
BUT, selecting maximize or minimize from the window menu (or double clicking the title bar) do NOT cause the 8 second freeze.

Very peculiar.

:edit:

even more bizarre; the freeze occurs on mousePressed not mouseReleased/Clicked, so the button doesn’t even need to be clicked for the pause to occur!

:edit:

and it isn’t freezing the OS as I first suspected, if I use a keyboard shortcut to to change focus to another application the mouse becomes responsive again.
