Website design?

I know this is very very VERY off topic and it may even go in the ‘ChatChat Monster’ area… but I don’t want to find a new forum and get an account for it for just one question and also I can’t seem to log into Yahoo Answers… Anyways… my website has to do with Java Games… so… yeah…

I never find myself good with website design… And I have gone with about 5 or 6 different design looks for my website and I landed on this one… But I’m still not sure about it…

Chill on those shadows, they should be very subtle and almost non-existent.
The padding at the top of your content boxes is a bit too high.
That shade of red hurts my eyes, try something from http://flatuicolors.com/.
The posts are too small. Make the elements a bit bigger!
And use a different font, I recommend Roboto for this.

Just a few random thoughts I had about this design. Will elaborate if necessary.

Yeah, less than nothing to add. Listen to Jev he is kinda good at this.
But especially change the color theme, the red is a very agressive one and it also has a weird contrast to the gray.

Thx Jev for the tips and I am currently working on it but I’m kind of stuck here…

I tried those Flat UI colors but the Alizarin seems to white and the Pomegranate seems to brownish or dark…
I made it a strong red because… well… it is ‘Red’ Mintie… so I tried emphesizing red…

Is there anyway to keep that red but still make it look nice?

Take a color that has less contrast to the red as background. Some kind of orange perhaps…
You could also try to use an other kind of red, even simple changes can affect how it looks overall.

Can you compress the site design in a ZIP or TAR.GZ file and upload it somewhere? I might toy around with it and see what I can do.

Sry for bringing back old topic… But I have been messing around with it… I have made the shadows really small but I’m not really sure if I like the new look… I’ll post new pictures when I get home…

Actually… if you are not a designer and you dont have a vision, you might as well go to a place like “open web design” (http://www.openwebdesign.org/) and just browse and pick one

I’m sure there are more pages like this, its an old one, you get the idea

But that takes the fun out of it…

It seriously gave me the feeling of “netflix”. I would consider changing it. Honestly, it doesn’t have to be anything crazy. Check out my website… nothing to it at all. It took 20 minutes. http://dot-indie.com/

Also, just a tip… if you need good software for web_dev, I would recommend Adobe’s open source program, Brackets. It’s quite cool.

Three points:

  1. Yeah… But it would just seem wasteful just giving up now in this design after so long…
  2. I use Sublime Text for my text editor and I find it amazing… You can even get plugins for it…
  3. Have you ever seen the tiniest bloom around your fingers? I always like to see a bloom (bit off topic but I noticed it while writing this)

The new look with the smaller shadows:

When I actually opened it after this right now and looked at it I started to actually like it…

It’s not wasteful, it’s the complete opposite.
