Hello.
I read a lot of books about Java, patterns, etc. and 3d graphics programming. Wrote snake game, using SWING, and 3d Tetris on LWJGL.
Now I want to get some team-work expirience, so can I join someone? Or, at least, tell, which else skills do I need?
OK just to be clear, watch DermetFan Channel as i told you in Skype :
2º
Theres a lot of tutorials about SVN :
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=svn&oq=svn&gs_l=youtube.3..0l8.5615.5982.0.6172.3.3.0.0.0.0.184.507.0j3.3.0...0.0...1ac.1.11.youtube.aRp01F-9VMA
I have a server to host that for us, though we can use public ones.
3º We will need more 2 persons for our project that we discussed in skype. Shouldnt take long to have something playable.
For anyone interested, is a small 2D game , top view camera with mixed orto camera.
We are accepting more 2 members. Just pm or post here.
Library : Libgdx
Netbeans 7.3.1 and 7.4 when released
JDK : Always last, 7u40 in this moment
UML = Unsure , probably Software Ideas Modeler
Comm Method : Skype/xfire/Email/private forum
Consultant : Java Gaming Forum and Hopefully if he agrees - cross fingers - Dermet Fan
I would like to talk about working together. Honestly not excited that you are using Libgdx and SVN. Just PM me your skype name or let me know which IRC to log onto.
Netbeans… I can’t stand that IDE.
What do you hate about netbeans?
I never “loved” it… but I didn’t hate it either.
The fact that everything is so cluttered, and it doesn’t have auto complete, the interface is so grey and drab, exporting projects sucks (rarely ever worked for me at school), the console management quite honestly sucks… the only benefit to Netbeans is that it’s lightweight and can run on even the bad school computers. Why use a half working IDE when you have something like Eclipse?
I actually thought NB was heavyweight, part of the reason why I love it
Its currently chewing up 1GB of RAM on my PC but I love it, I can manage 20+ projects at a time with it with no issues.
Eclipse is great for Android development
I find Eclipse is actually much more lightweight than NB.
Eclipse barely runs on the school computers, while NB runs fairly smooth. I also hate the key shortcuts, how the hell is Alt Shift F convenient for auto formatting code? The default for Eclipse is Ctrl Shift F, which is much more natural to me.
communications is really important and im not sure if its being used a lot here, but git is very useful for teamwork
@Argo
Agreed, but what does that have to do with IDE?
@opiop65
I feel ya, been using eclipse… especially for android… actually the reason I switched over. However, I guess I am just not a hater. Haha.
alt-shift-f isn’t that bad of a shortcut. I have a bigger problem with alt-enter, but you can always bind your own keys. I’ve never had a problem with exporting. And it does have autocomplete…try updating your ide?
Sorry for the rant, Jimmt, you’re right I can rebind the keys. I can’t update my IDE however as it’s installed on the school computers. So maybe newer versions aren’t bad, but I know the one we have drives me nuts.
Oh, right. My school’s computers still run Java 5 :persecutioncomplex:
To get back on topic, Rasterizer, I think you should try to make a bigger game if you’re comfortable with small games. Snake and tetris are good learning, but they are very simple games that don’t require many classes.
If you’re looking for a reason why to use Eclipse over Netbeans, I have one. Notch used Eclipse to make Minecraft. Says all…
And he couldn’t have done it in Netbeans or Intellij Idea?
Does NB have class, resource search options? Does it have options like CTRL+O ? I don’t know. Never used it. These 2 are the commands I use the most.
once you go intellij you never go back! :-X
To me, this says nothing but ignorance. If you’re going to choose an ide, choose one that has the features you’re looking for, not one that certain games were made from. In the end, it’s not the ide that makes the game, its the programmer.
And hundreds of other games and tens of thousands of other huge programs were written in Netbeans. The argument goes either way. I could just as easily state that you should use Netbeans because James Gosling uses Netbeans IDE.
