W.I.P forum?

Sorry guys, I must be getting old or something :persecutioncomplex: but I’m having some difficulty finding my new-ish favourite place, the work-in-progress forum?

check sommunity works. thre has been a whole new cahnge. there are complete games in showcase.

‘Community Works’ is pretty much the same as WIP, just rebranded to also include complete games.

Is it just me or does ‘Community Works’ sound like it’s for discussing sewer maintenance or something? Why not a name like ‘User Projects’?
Simon

The main reason the name was changed from ‘WIP’ to ‘Community Works’, is because some people were complaining that they have finished their game and so technically it was no longer a WIP. Instead of bloating the forums with yet another section, it was better to just change the name to one that included both WIP and Completed games.

If the name isn’t good enough, then I’m sure if the majority here can agree on a better one, it’d be changed.

I dunno but, for example in Game Jolt there is clear line
finished, in development (WIP) or cancelled projects (aka development hell or just cancelled)

every game falls in one of those categories so yeah

I’m not really sure why you chose “community works”. Sounds like projects in which more people of the community are involved together

It was shorter than “Works That Members of the Community Have Made.”

But yeah if you guys want something else, mentioned it and I can go ahead and change it again. I’m not particularly attached to what’s there now.

‘User Projects’ sounds better than ‘Community Works’
I’d like;
‘Showcase: The Best’ (admin’s choice)
‘Showcase: The Rest’ (anyone can start a thread)
‘Works In Progress’

I don’t really want 3 sections, at least not at this juncture. I like the idea of there being one place for stuff that we chose and then another one for everything else. Easy and simple, and I don’t need to keep monitoring for when people want to move their game to “the rest.” Plus, I think that the best and the rest is probably a bit degrading to everyone else.

User Projects sounds a little bit boring to me, like it doesn’t include games and things you can view specifically - rather it’s just stuff for people to be posting in and working on their own. Which I guess is semi-accurate, but I’d rather keep it sounding less like projects and more like works.

i would just go with “Unfinished Works” because thats what it is, either your stuff is finished or not
games showcase is a game you would buy. and unfinished works is just everything else, doesnt matter if WIP or cancelled or whatnot

What if it’s finished but not very good

Exactly. Not everybody’s work in that section is still a WIP to them, but even so we don’t want to put it into Showcase because of some lackings it might have for whatever reason. Sure, to me I would still call it a WIP (so those issues can be improved), but the author might think differently.

I think it would be better to leave Showcase open to all who want to post. Because then it acts true to its name… it’s a place where developer’s can showcase their work (finished or otherwise).

If JGO wants a special forum where admins/mods “promote” games to “really awesome” status or whatever, just call that forum “Featured Games”

Problem solved. :stuck_out_tongue:

or maybe just rename the showcase section to “Featured Games” and the “Community Works” to something else that comes up with this topic

Tsk! You and your wants, you power-crazed maniac! ducks

Bloodridge isn’t a WIP, nor is it a complete game, it’s a ‘the rest’.

You mean ‘the best’? Users could just post what they want in ‘the rest’, like the ‘Showcase’ was.
Surely you don’t have to monitor anything, you just choose games you like and put them in your faves section. No requests involved - if you like it, you promote it.

I feel more offended by being relegated to ‘Community Works’. I’ve made something I’m proud of and I want to showcase it, where’s my incentive to post in ‘Community Works’? Bloodridge is not a ‘Community Work’, it’s bloody marvellous! I want to showcase it! I can’t post it in ‘the best’ so I post in ‘the rest’. If the mods don’t choose it for a favourite, that tells me to shape it up!

How about;
‘Showcase: Mod’s Favourites’
‘Showcase’
‘Works In Progress’

Go on! 3’s a lucky number!

I Like the idea of a featured games section this would give developers something to aim for and feel good about themselves if they are invited.
I also liked the WIP section where my game lived.
But i think there should be another section for finished games even if they arnt that great, not everyone likes the same sort of games.
If a game is in finished games and it is invited to go in featured games and author agrees(dont want to upset anyone) then a moderator can simply make new post on featured in a standard format.no posting allowed because it clutters it up.

name of game
screen shot
requirements
and brief description.

How about (yet) another 3-tier suggestion.

-The Good.
-The Bad.
-The Ugly.

:stuck_out_tongue:

HaHa as long as i dont get ugly im not bothered ;D

I was talking about how I was getting at least a message a day saying “please move my game to WIP” or vise versa, not to mention posts people put in their topic “please move to WIP.” Obviously they could make a new thread on their own, but that starts to defeat the purpose in my opinion.

But if everyone likes the idea of 3 sections, sure. We’ve just got so many sections already and I thought we already had a big long discussion about all this showcase vs WIP stuff already…

I think having 3 categories is more hassle then its worth, 2 keeps it simple and straight forward, the following names may be more logical.

  1. Featured Games : Special or Complete and Polished Games (Highly Playable)
  2. Showcase : Showcase your Work In Progress and Finished Games
