If you are no fan of the ‘one java tray icon per applet feature’ and have some votes left - don’t wait!

Voted. It’s not exactly one tray icon per applet, but it is one tray icon per VM instance. As of 6u10, there can be several VM instances per browser.
yup!
I’m going to vote for it as I find it fair to ask it to improve java user experience.

TextRenderer in OpenGL 1.4 can’t be used when the game uses the ARB extension of VBO at the same time. I’m going to suggest some fixes but they (people at Sun games) are very busy. This bug is annoying for lots of people that use JOGL 1.1.1 rc5 (the JVM crashes directly) and the other more recent versions (it throws a GLException) including the current stable version.
Not one tray icon per applet? What about no tray icon!
But well, anyway, that’s a lost battle, just like you get those Flash, Visual Basic and PHP trayicons with popup balloons. :persecutioncomplex:
Yes, and especially the massive amount of HTML tray icons linking to the W3C Working Group :persecutioncomplex: (I love this smiley)
…I don’t think this battle is lost, the tray icon issue is simple a obvious unnecessary behaviour contributing nothing which could be of interest for users. But who knows, maybe Sun is planing to render the JAVA ticker in a popup balloon in update 11 on each applet load…
(just kidding)
The main reason why I want to get rid of the icon is because I fear consumers start slowly to associate java with high hard disc load + a frozen browser (even if both is improving enormously with update 10)

Exactly.
And that’s exactly what the above RFE is about; hiding the tray icon per default.
It’s definitely getting my vote.
