Urban Walker

Hi

I am currently working on a project that I call urban walker.

Right now I only have some vague ideas for actual game play. Instead I am trying to learn some pixel art, by creating some city ambience. I thought it would be fun to have a small log, that hopefully will show some progress.

So here goes first screenshot. I have had great difficulties with making the texture, this is version 4 and there is still room for improvement

That looks pretty good. Except the walls.

When doing pixel art, you can’t just put random dots/lines.
You need to place them deliberately. Try making a brick pattern, and see how that looks.

I agree to HeroGravesDev, the walls kinda looks like tree-wood :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks promising, love the light, and I can imagine the sort of mood you are aiming for.

Graphically the grey person has a very similar tonal value to the wall. This does not help the figure to stand out, but I also realise you may be wanting your walker to blend in and walk unseen?

Will keep coming back to see how it’s going.

Looks good!
But whats the content?

Thank you for the ideas.

I will try to remake the wall today, and if I can make it add in some sounds.

I don’t feel like I have any control over the graphical site of games yet. But yeah I would like him to be just some dude walking in the city

I don’t know… I have a couple of vague ideas, but I would rather try them out on you than explaining them :stuck_out_tongue:

In short I would like him to walk in the city and experience 3 or 4 different events.

So here goes another try, I think it helped quite a bit making actual bricks.

I think I need another way of making light, at the moment I am just using transparent white and it behaves a bit weird. But it might be because the images are being stretched.

Looks better!

You could color everything black except the light instead coloring the light white.

I have spend a lot of time with basically restructuring the code, and I believe it has become better OOP.

I have also worked on some player animations:

I am still not sure whether he should be able to walk diagonally or not, it seems like a lot of extra work both animation and tile wise.

Im realy impressed with your player animations… I have alot to learn, But i have never been good at art so i think im just going to beg for someone else to help me

Great work bro!

Thank you very much.

I am just beginning to learn how to do art stuff.
You can improve really fast with practise, I took a 1-week drawing course this January and went from shit to an okay drawer. Just try and try not to think “this look like crap” while doing it.

So I suppose it is fine, that I use this thread as a diary. I don’t really have anything to show, but I have made some progress.

  • Implemeted a doppelganger, who copies the players movement after x-frames. I have a couple of puzzles in my head with this mechanic
  • Made a very simple punch mechanic
  • Made a system for an open city, though I don’t know how open the game will be
  • Made some improvenemt on my collision detection, it is easier and faster to move colObjects
