Unusually quiet here lately...

Some game convention going on? Aliens invading? Free porn on TV? New game sucking everyones time? Star Wars released on pirate sites?

Suspicously quiet lately… to quiet … ???

Tired of waiting for the new boards. :frowning: :-/

its just that time of year, assignment deadlines!

Kev’s on holiday ;D

Some people might go out for some strange reason

I think it’s nervous anticipation of lwjgl16k…

Too much spam.

Need new board.

Must. Stop. To. Talk. Like. Captain. Kirk.

We really really need email verification. A forced lurk period of maybe 1hour. And of course the essential bit of censoring those spam “game” urls like gangsterwar.com etc. Seriously. The way it currently is is plain ridiculous.

Good point, these boards are getting attacked WAY to often. :frowning:

The email confirmation thingy is a must really. I was really surprised that this board logged me on after registration without it.

Apart from that - lots to do - There’s grass to cut. I gave a talk on programming PICs yesterday evening. Any spare time is going on learning openGL with an eye to entering the LWJGL16k comp and not looking too shabby.

Alan

school :stuck_out_tongue: semester’s closing though, so although everything’s piling up, that means soon it’ll all be chopped down for good till the fall! Then I can get back on here more again

There’s still a pretty high barrier to entry into actually programming Java games as well… you can get far better results in less time with Blitz and dare I say it even C++ using the right libs.

Got to make it easier to write games somehow! Someone needs to come up with a nice Eclipse plugin for 2D LWJGL game development

Games are hard, if you can figure out a way around that then… goodluck!

I have 3 reasons why I’ve not been here lately:-

  1. I bought a Mac Mini, so I’ve been getting my head around all the subtle differences between them and my Windows Laptop. It also means I can now test my LWJGL downloads and fix why they don’t work on Macs!!!

  2. My girlfriend is moving in so I’ve spent the past month moving furnature around the house trying out different locations for the hi-fi and plasma tv.

  3. I burnt myself out on games programming during the 4k comp, need a rest of late night jar packing and coding.

Still check in as often as possible from time to time to read new posts.

Andy.

That would be a good idea, if people are too lazy to learn OpenGL.

There are plenty of Java game engines which can handle everything quickly and easily, especially 2D.
IE: jME.

The problem is really a toolchain one: how do I get sprites into a game? Right now even using my libs that I’ve built up for years it still takes considerable knowledge and effort to just make a single sprite wiz around the screen.

Try it now, in LWJGL, from scratch.

Go download the Blitz Basic eval and try the same.

Good point.
Me too.
